Poll question: What's your drink of choice? |
|
Of all the tempting choices out there after a hard day's work, what's your favorite drink during happy hour? And, of course - by happy hour, I mean any hour! And be specific if you wish - if you prefer beer, what kind?
Me? Either beer, specifically Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Or wine - dry red, preferably Shiraz.

I used to wretch at the stuff, now I'll pick a bar that has it on draught. That stuff'll put hair on your ass.

I have decided if there is no guiness I won't drink beer unless it will offend person giving the party. I have brought my own twice this month already. Love the widget!

18. The widget is a great step... |
|
... it's better than the cans, but the real draught stuff is that much better. Maybe I'm just crazy, but it tastes fuller from the tap, and it's got that great head to it that the bottles don't have. I heard George Clooney has a keg of it installed in his dressing room.
I hope Guinness a team of Irish scientists working on it right now. This mick right here is waiting anxiously for it.

But the widget makes private parties and other occasions not held in bars delightful. The Guinness here is pasteurized too which makes it taste much different than the original.

8. We need an "all (or most) of the above" option |
|
For me the preference hierarchy generally goes Scotch (Talisker), bourbon (Wild Turkey), then beer (darkish ales) and wine (red) tied for third.
By volume, beer is my clear winner.

14. I LOVE Bloody Marys!! |
|
Not just love them. I LOVE them! Best ones can be obtained in New Orleans; luckily a nearby bar serves up a damned fine one.
Don;t know how to make a good one myself, though -- anyone have a good recipe?
My New Years Resolution: to drink more. To start drinking earlier in the day.

... Sam Adams, which is used to be local. It's good, but I like others better. I love Harpoon's UFO Heffeweizen, and their IPA is good, too. We've got Buzzard's Bay Co., Ipswich... it is amazing how far American beer has come in the past 20 years.

I'm pretty sure I've heard of Ipswich... Yes, it's great that home- and microbrewing has made such a strong comeback. My maternal grandfather made beer and applejack during Prohibition, so for me, it's a family thing :-)

If I'm feeling really up to it, it's Corona and Jose Cuervo.
But Beer is my favorite. Especially microbrews. I'm a big fan of summer beers such as Bell's Oberon, and I also love Leinenkugel's Honey Weiss.
Not much of a fan of dark beers, sad to say. My dad loves them, so maybe as I mature I will enjoy them. I've got a good thirty years yet, though.

It's basic, refreshing, and alcoholic. Sort of my universal default drink. Sometimes I want more salt, in which case I get a margarita, rocks, salt. Sometimes I want beer, in which case it's Shiner Bock -- I don't know what to drink when I leave Texas. But at least 8 times out of 10, it's yer basic vodka tonic. Double.

|
Not Cuervo Gold or whatever swill you buy at the MGM liquor store in the plastic bottles.
I've had some very good tequilas that taste as smooth as a good single-malt scotch (another favorite).
But still I have to admit you can't beat a good craft-brewed American beer, or a real cask-conditioned British bitter.
