If I convert to mac from PC will it make me a bad person?
I am impervious to advertising, but I am a SUCKER for accessories and themes.

I bought an ipod mini and all of a sudden fell in love with the WORLD of macs. Oh so pretty, and they all fit together and match.

But I bought a PC laptop a few months ago so I am stuck for a while to come.

The IT guy at work begged me not to convert. When i asked why he said "Well in terms of performance and quality and durability, the mac products are good. But the people who use them..." and then convulsed with shuddering.

13. Well of course I'm swayed by aesthetics.
I'm all about the aesthetics.

But if it were soley an aesthetic thing and the actualy product was inferior it wouldn't sway me.

All things being equal, however, aesthetics is a real factor.

6. Just keep in mind it costs more...
Law of competition. If only one company can produce the computer and main hardware pieces, it costs more than if there are several manufacturers (Intel, AMD, etc., etc.) competing for your business.

Virtual PC is one program that can accomplish this. And, some software companies will let you upgrade to the Mac version cheaply, though some won't, the bastards.

33. Do you know any college students or professors?
The educational discount on computers and software has given me remarkable savings over the years.

Not as much on computers and other hardware, but the software savings can be awesome. Many large universities have dedicated computer stores for their faculty, staff, and students.

Welcome to our world. It's a happier place.

42. Technically, what you are suggesting is illegal.
Many of these "student discount" licenses are valid ONLY while you're a teacher or student. Once you're done, so is the license.

That won't stop anybody, but I will point it out anyway. :D

If you think an ipod is cool, wait to you integrate it with a mac, a digital camera, and a digital camcorder and start turning out movies, music, and all kinds of other cool things. No, it won't make you a bad person. Just one of the few who knows what's up. ;)

14. Douglas Adams thought it would make you a good computer user
The lamented author of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: "Mac users may be only two percent of all computer users, but remember they're the top two percent."

I've had a Mac since 1985. I've sold and used computers on both sides of the platform divide. I'll give up computing before I give up my Mac.

It could've been a bad day. One encounter at one convention hardly makes someone a bad person.

And we're not claiming special privileges because of being the top 2%, like the economic wealth holders are. Being the top 2% is reward enough. ^_^

17. Having both is good
I stuck with PCs cause that satisfied the nerd part of me that loved to fret over IRQ and DMA conflicts, as well as actually knowing DOS commands. On the other hand, Macs are cool. But they frustrated me when I worked with one--the easy grasp of commands confused me. Plus, the fact that our IT department always loved to give their "gifted" PC users more software to evaluate thrilled me. I never had to worry about that aspect of it. Back about 12 years ago, I had at least one copy of every Lotus 1-2-3 that came out over the span of three years. Yeah, like I remember any of it, anymore! Software ultimately was the deal breaker for me. It was more difficult to get what I needed in Mac software.

Pirate, for what it's worth (very little).

Big companies like ADOBE have already started ditching the Mac on some of their programs. E.g. Premiere. If Mac is so special, why is Adobe (and others) treating the Mac as if it were a paranoid skunk?

Oh, There's far more pirated PC software out there than Mac too. But any Kazaa user knows that.

36. Where I used to be
All the puters were networked through a main server, connected with a network setup--I think it was token ring. Of course, we're talking a huge company with loads of money to do it, but if both computers are using the same kind of network card, they should be compatible in that respect.

This website will help you make your decisions, I think:

20. Your IT guy is using republican logic
Usually when I talk to Republicans and get them to talk about issues they always agree that on issue after issue the Democratic platform and plans are better and that Bush and the Republicans have made their lives worse. Yet they continue to vote for Republicans out of some kind of blind loyalty.

The fact is that since 1991 I've owned three macs, I've never had a virus and I've never had to talk to an "IT guy" about my computer. They just work. You can concentrate on the things that you want to do with your computer instead of concentrating on the computer.

35. I think the IT nerds like PCs precisely because they are high-maintenance.
They like fiddling with the inner workings, and they are more interested in the computer itself than they are in what it can do. If you like tinkering, get a PC. If you like getting the job done, get a Mac.

24. At my job we have PCs. They suck. And the IT guy who works on them agrees.
He has to fix them and deal with viruses and spyware and system crashes and network problems all day, every day. At home he has Macs because his experiences with PCs have convinced him that PCs totally blow. If you have a Mac you won't have to worry about spyware or viruses and you will rarely, if ever, have any hardware problems or crashes. I've used Macs since 1987 and have had to have repair work done on any of them exactly ONCE. And I have never, ever had to call tech support about a software problem. They are more expensive but they work. In short, you couldn't pay me enough to buy a PC -- it's bad enough that I'm stuck with one of those pieces of junk at work.

(the issue isn't the person; it's how the corporation treats the person. All corporations seem to be the same in this regard: Pander to the lamer elements and capitalize on that. Unless you have specific applications for PC that you can't get on the mac, I think you'll be happy with switching.

I *love* the Mac interface, but I've always used PCs and am very PC centric at work. My mom has an eMac with OS X and it makes me very jealous.
