6. Shopping is our patriotic duty! Der Fuhrer says so!
Buying another cheap plastic toaster manufactured by Chinese slave-labor and sold in an anti-union store is the only way we have to fight terrorism.

7. Not a chance.
Nothing they've got out there is worth the hassle and the ginormous crowds.

9. Not a chance, I'm picking up a new TV for myself tomorrow
I have a buddy that works at Best Buy and can get me a discount. After that, I'm not setting foot in a major retail establishment until after New Years :). I may mail order some stuff, and I guess I will be visiting Costco, but that's about as far as it goes.

It's a combination of not wanting to give the bastards any money, and not wanting to fight the horrid crowds.

The TV is primarily for watching my DVD collection, I watch very little regular TV these days :)

11. Right on!
I'm the same way. Mainstream TV these days sucks, about 99% of the time. Add in the hordes of commercials and I'd rather pay $30 for a DVD set and buy generic food/clothing in protest.

18. I prefer to buy used, when possible...
Lower price and the manufacturer doesn't get extra money, especially the companies I do not like.

I do have to buy new at times, of course, but the used market can be quite nice...

But not rental returns. They are more likely to be scratched and problematic.

10. Heck no
I'm either making my gifts this year (thank God I have some artistic talent) or making donations to liberal causes (thank God my family is pretty left-wing). NO MORE DEBT FOR *'S ECONOMY!

12. I avoid that mess like the plague
There is nothing I need to purchase that can't wait until Monday. I hate all that mess.

I also hate to travel on Thanksgiving week.

I will however go to the movies on Thanksgiving Day; my husband, daughter and I always went to the movie after Thanksgiving Dinner while the rest of the family was watching the CowBoys game.

We had to get out of the smoke filled house for a while anyway. Then we would come back after the movies and eat turkey sandwiches and have my daughter's birthday party.

13. That sounds like fun.
I'd like to start a tradition like that. I remember my dad took us to movies on New Year's Day a few times.

20. Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day are great days to go
to the movies

Last Christmas Day we saw "Return of the King" and "Peter Pan" back to back at the new RAVE cinema. It was great.

I look forward to seeing lots of movies with my family when my husband comes home to visit from Wyoming in December.

23. Yes ... but ...

Not for the reason most people go out.

This is the first year in 19 years I've had the day after Thanksgiving off. Before this year, I have always worked in retail, and I've always been on the receiving end of "that mess." It's hell.

As another person in this thread said, I'm a people watcher. I guess it was something I developed working retail for so long. Kinda kept me sane ... well, sorta. This year, since I have both Thursday and Friday off and will be spending it with my daughter, we're spending the entire day together on Thanksgiving, then going out on Friday just to say we did. She's never been able to go out with her dad that Friday and wants to do so, and I sorta want to see how the other half lived all those years. I'm likening it to an adventure into a wilderness full of man-eating lions and such. I have no plans to buy anything. Most of my Christmas gifts have already been bought/made anyway.

We will go to a movie that afternoon and then spend the evening decorating for Christmas.

24. Friday Nov. 26th: Buy Nothing Day!
Revolt in the comfort of your own home! Score a blow against the corrupt system of self destruction by taking a long nap! Take a bite out of their bottom line by chewing on your toenails for a few hours in the tub! With a lot of no work victory can be ours!
