I'm building a computer with my 10 year old nephew for Thanksgiving...
(And spending more money than I should)

But he's a gadget phreak and I think it might steer him in a good direction. I'm actually going to have him build it and install everything with me backing him up.

I'm really looking forward to it and think it's going to be a ton of fun.

1. anticipate some frustration..

...either on the part of the 10 year old, or yourself. Have fun.

4. Ready.... He's been biting at the bit ever since I mentioned the idea...
He's going to want to be gaming on it five minutes after we install the CPU.

5. Watch out for those sharp metal edges
Seriously.

Good luck keeping your nephew's attention while installing the OS. The mechanical part of building a computer is fun, installing software SUCKS!

6. The MB & PS are already installed.
I have lost enough skin to be mindful of those nasty metal edges.

:toast:

7. That is such a cool thing to do!
I always say building a computer is Lego's for adults. :)

I think it's great you are doing it with him rather then for him. Explain to him the quality and cost of the components vs quality and cost of prebuilt while your at it.

8. Sharp edges and fragile RAM sticks.
And those little CPU pins.

Just make sure you guys are well grounded.

Other than that it should be fun.

9. AMD Athlon/Sempron is less expensive than Intel. Plus,
Intel has teamed up with NIIT to give Indians great IT education. (so say 'toodles' to IT in America.) Please do NOT support Intel for abandoning fellow Americans.

10. I have built scores of boxes and not ONE Intel box.
We're putting in my old 2600+, I got the 3200+ for the 400Mgz FSB.
