My car got broken into and radio was stolen. Ask me anything!
Edited on Mon Nov-22-04 09:08 PM by zulchzulu
Yep. Window was broken on passenger side of Honda Civic and radio ($150 value) was stolen. All done during the day in a parking garage. Reported to the cops. They say this happens a lot, even in "liveable" Madison, WI.

Nothing like being violated.

I talked to a person who parks next to me and he said his brother's car was stolen and put on fire in Connecticut.

1. Are you in doubt you'll ever get your radio back?

3. Heh...prolly not
I did have the box it came in and gave the serial number to the police, so who knows. He said that if they try to pawn it, they might arrest the person. He got my permission to press charges.

2. It does happen alot, happened to me and my father.
That sucks, I know how it is. My car was broken into 2 years ago and my radio of about equal value was also stolen. Unfortunately the smashed window cost alot more and I ended up paying a $200 deductable that I can hardly afford.

Also reminds me of some people who went around the block I live and slashed the tires on about a dozen cars.

4. I bought a new stereo two weeks ago
because my other one was stolen a month ago. Guess what, my new one was just stolen over the weekend. That makes three stereos stolen, 1 passenger side window broken, one door handle/lock and one trunk lock broken in 4 months. I'm guessing it's the same thief over and over.

I think I got ya beat.

13. Underground parking?
The cop I talked to said that is one of the most common places to get cars ripped off. Usually a thief can get in all basically has hours to work on things and most places don't have decent security cameras.

Car alarms, as much as I hate them, seem to be the thing to have for this dilemna.

5. Removeable faceplate?
Had three or four stolen in my lifetime. One was stolen the night after I installed it that afternoon.

9. I didn't have a faceplate either
Thanks for the welcome.

My radio had another identical model with a faceplate for about $20-30 more. Although at the time I could not afford it but it ended up costing me much more not getting it.

I use a portable mp3 player for my car now and keep it safe.

10. Great idea
Get a cheap cassette player and invest the real money in an mp3 player and an adapter.

18. Nope, it was after 60 days, my insurance co
settled after 30 days. big pain in the butt. They found my car stripped in a bad part of town, everything was gone. I have good insurance but still, $250 for additionial car rental, about $500 in the stuff i had in the car that i didnt claim on my homeowners ins. because my deductible was $500 and then the cost of buying another car. The one good thing, at least i wasn't in the car when they took it.
