What should I get for my bf's parents? |
|
I'm heading down to alabama for thanksgiving...I think they are republicans :(
I still want to get them something nice. They are late 40s/early 50s. My price range is $25-30. There's a crate and barrel nearby. I wonder what would be good?

Make them chocolate chip cookies. Taste great and indicate time and effort. Everyone loves chocolate cookies.

5. A donation to your favorite progressive website in their name |
|
Seriously. I stopped giving Christmas presents several years ago in lieu of donating to websites such as truthout.org or Du, or donating to charities. I send cards or e-mail to my friends telling them to whom I've donated and why and ask them to do the same.
(My mother, at age 91, is the only exception. I still give her books to read.)

6. A home pregnancy test and have someone |
|
thats pregnant pee on it and then after they open it tell you aren't getting married but you will raise your little love child on a commune in Vermont that Howard Dean once dropped acid at. In fact tell you're naming your baby Timothy Leary no matter what sex it is. If thats too showy, go for a gift certificate to a restaurant they like.

7. Do they like to eat out? Go to the movies? |
|
Get them a gift card for $30 to their favorite restaurant, or get them a night at the movies. That's what we're getting my BF's parents for Christmas. Duckie

You could also do a Blockbuster gift card, and maybe a cute little basket with some "movie candy" and microwave popcorn in it -- sorta like a "night in" gift basket.

8. Is this a Christmas/Chanuka gift, or... |
|
just a "thanks for letting me visit" gift? If it's more of a "host/hostess" gift, a nice bottle of wine (if they drink wine) or some gourmet coffee is a nice gift. Or what about a plant?
If it's an actual holiday gift, I agree that a scented candle(s) would be nice. Crate and Barrel has nice stuff, but it might be hard to pick something if you don't know their style/decor. (i.e., they might like a pretty platter or pasta bowl, but how will you know which one to pick?) Does your BF have any suggestions?

11. Give them the gift of luxury food and drink. |
|
You could make up a food and drink basket. Who really needs more Crate and Barrel clutter?

13. Oh! Or how about a game? |
|
Something "social," like Taboo or Trivial Pursuit -- or does anyone remember Outburst? It's been a while since I've bought new games, so I'm not sure what the most current ones are, but this might be a way to kill two birds with one stone. Not only do you have a gift for them, but you also have a ready-made activity to fill in some of the time while you're there and avoid those awkward silences as you get to know each other.
