This is not an all time favorites list nor does it need to be in any particular order. I just want to know what has been floating around in your head lately.
Mine:
"Hot Burrito #2" by the Flying Burrito Bros.- To me this was one of those songs that reaches out and grabs you. The way Grahm carries the song adds so much emotion. On the bridge after the 2nd line you can just FEEL the song.
"Come Get To This" by Marvin Gaye- probably the best track off of Let's Get It On outside of the title track I am personally partial to the Live at the London Palladium version (that leads into the killer Lets Get It On.) For a guy who did not like playing live he sang his ass off. Probably all the blow (would also explain all the tackie suits.)
"The Train Song" by The Children- local indie band. Sort of whacked out Dub with one of the most memorable basslines I have ever heard
"See Saw" by Aretha Franklin-this song just makes you move yo' ass! I don't think you can listen to this and NOT dance around like an idiot. My band's probably going to start doing our own version here soon. It will be white college boy soulless but it will be fun as hell.
"You Don't Know Me" by Ray Charles- I have a live version from a 63 live show that is mindblowing. Brother Ray sounds like he is on the verge of crying. Just him and an upright bass. The album version just has too much going on for my taste. This version is absolutley gorgeous.
"Get Where I Belong" by Free-most underappreciated blues/rock band around. Paul Kossoff was an amazing guitarist and never gets enough credit
Alright enough of my ramblings what about you?

There are some great tracks on there. I'm listening to A Man And A Woman at this very moment and I'll probably listen to it again when it's over.

4. "Come Monday" by Jimmy Buffett |
|
Well, really anything by Jimmy Buffett, but that's one that's floating around in my head right now.
Also the whole "Talk on Corners" album by The Corrs. And anything by the Dixie Chicks. And the soundtrack to "Miss Saigon." (I have eclectic musical tastes!)

I love Erykah Badu. Just something about her voice makes me just want to kick back and just chill the rest of the day. I could listen to her live album over and over all day.
I don't really have the cred to call myself a true R&B fan. I've probably got more than most people and quite a bit of knowledge but I still have a lot to learn. My thing lately has been finding old albums on King Records like Little Willie John and Hank Ballard.

7. well, ok then - same criteria as yours |
|
Warren Zevon - "Disorder In The House", from his final effort ("The Wind"), with a scalding guitar cameo by Springsteen.
Neil Young - "Double E" from one of the best of 2003, "Greendale". Only Neil still has the balls to pull off a vaguely satirical concept album in defense of environmentalism.
ZZ Top - "Mescalero", proof that we need more marimba in rock, or funky/blues/raunch like this.
Ralph Stanley - "Falsehearted Lover's Blues". Growing up in TN made me hip to bluegrass long before the Coen Brothers did...
Tom Waits - "Lucky Day", pure hobo philosophy as only Waits can deliver it.

"I'm the man who loves you" by Wilco (Yankee Hotel Foxtrot) - An awesome throwback to the cheery, feel good pop of the 60's.
"Jesus, etc." by Wilco (YHF) - awesome song... almost retro Wilco, but with some of the newish synth stuff thrown in. Great lyrics.
"New Slang" by The Shins (Oh, Inverted World) - Awesome lyrics. A good song to relax to... catchy but very, very, very mellow.
"Girl on the Wing" by The Shins (OIW) - OK lyrics, but what really makes this song is the kickass keyboard chorus. Sends you floating into the sky...
"2+2=5" by Radiohead (Hail to the Thief) - Simple, clean rocker by Radiohead. Awesome, awesome, AWESOME lyrics and a killer power pop guitar part.

songs by the Queers from a 2002 called Pleasant Screams: You Just Gotta Blow My Mind and Tic Tic Toc. Melodic pop-punk with a 60s feel. http://www.lookoutrecords.com/catalog/item.php3?sd=136176012&matrix_id=943&bnd_id=50and Jackson Browne's Lawyers in Love and Looking East. How's that for Cognitive Dissonance? ;)
