Entering the Wiccan religion.
I'm reading up on the Wiccan religion, because it's something I've been interested in for a while. I've had this empty feeling inside myself lately and I'm wondering if reawakening some sort of spirituality could fill it.
I'm wondering if there are any witches here on DU, and if they have any tips for a newbie such as myself. Thanks in advance, it's greatly appreciated!

Good place to start though you'll get plenty of answers here as well.

Edited to add: I think you have to be a donor to post but not to read the groups.

7. Well, you can laugh now, cuz I think we just hijacked this thread.
Sorry truthbetold.

I hope you're over reading the other groups we both posted for ya, anyway.

6. I am strangely compelled to ask you a question
If this question seems rude, please understand that that is not my intent.

But I'm curious why you choose Wicca to fill that spiritual need over a different "religion" - ? Why not Buhdism? Why not create your own religion? Why Wicca?

I am really only asking because I am "religion-less" yet I don' t feel a tug toward Wicca, tho I have absolutely no problem with anyone chosing Wicca. I don't have a real tug toward any spiritual thing, tho I lean toward Christ, if only because that's what I've been taught since my very early childhood.

Anyway, I do wonder how you chose Wicca to fill that void.

You have every right not to reply to this post.

8. Good question...
perfectly valid. I guess it's because I have dated people involved with the Wicca religion, and I learned a little bit through them but I've always wanted to know more and I decided the best way to do that is to learn myself.
I used to be Catholic (mostly through family pressure) but I don't think I've ever really believed in God, and was more or less scared into accepting that religion. However, I've always believed in "spirits' not of the Christian sense and I think trying Wicca is a way for me to explore these curiousities I've had, and overall, as a way to be more in tune with myself and the areas around me. I believe there are more planes to this world than meets the eye, and I want to see and be aware of all that I can.

11. Great answer
I was seeing your choice for a destination rather than a step. Not that there's anything wrong with it being a destination. Not that there's not, either tho. Ok, this has been my worst. politician. ever. impression.

Seriously, I think that's a great attitude and you not only answered my question, you enlightened me at the same time.

Whatever it is, it seems so vast and so needed. Everyone tries to reach it, I believe. A power, and our instinct to yield, drawing us back home.

I'll stop here

good travels, truthbetold

13. Great answer.
I, too, am a Wiccan. I was drawn to it for many reasons, the nature aspect of it, the god-goddess aspect of it being two of them. I was raised Episcopalian and I just realized one day that I just did not believe in God. (I have always found the teachings of Jesus to be wonderful, though.) I started reading about Wicca and the earth religions and it just touched something in me, and it felt right. (Maybe I'm not explaining myself very well now, though, it is late.)

A couple of my favorite books are "The Spiral Dance", written by Starhawk, "The Holy Book of Women's Mysteries", by Z. Budapest, and "When God was a Women", written by Merlin Stone.

Good fortune to you in your quest!

And as to your response about why you're attracted to Wicca; it sounds a little like my first attraction to it.

I started out Catholic and much of the "pomp and circumstance" in that church may have originated in earlier earth based traditions which many now re-create in Wicca or other forms of Paganism.

If you have questions and can't post to the groups yet you may still be able to get answers over here.

And now, I think I should head to bed because all of a sudden I can't type worth a horse's patoot!

:hi:

edited to add: all of Scott Cunningham's books are very good reading on the subject of Wicca. He's an easy read and very informative.

12. Interesting.
I, too, was a cradle catholic. How did catholicism send us towards paganism, eh? I dabbled in paganism for years - loved the ritual and the cyclic nature of things. I, however, simply don't go for the notion of god or goddess in the sense of any sort of personification.

Do a little reading on pantheism and see what you think.

lol I'd post this to you in the groups buy mr azoth is freaky about any sort of online money exchange - which leaves me starless. Ah well - let's hope the Lounge forgives me. :)

Again - best of luck!
