1. I helped close down CNN's IRC chatroom

re: Talkback Live, Spin Room, etc.

They couldn't rebut my arguments anymore, imho, and I'd been quoted too many times on air, so they changed the format.

3. I've never been kicked off anything
The closest i can come to is on the game Star wars Galaxies and i helped protest because they banned wrong members that did not dupe fake money. (gawd that was fun,you won't believe the crowd!)
And they gave me a serious warning not to protest...(like that stoped me?) so i quit the game and went on to Lineage 2 game.

4. Me! Me! :D
I got kicked off Smirking Chimp's forum, and the how and why are pretty funny. :)

The first time they locked one of my threads was when I just asked for the URL to another thread, which hadn't been locked (and AFAIK, wasn't that controversial, either). I politely private-messaged the mod who'd locked the thread to ask why, and got no reply. O-o-okay....

Then, after the election, a few of us dared to question whether Kerry had done enough to make sure the votes were counted. I'd heard several arguments to the contrary, most of which were fairly reasonable, but then one person had the gall to say that people were overreacting by saying that "everything that Bush does means the end of the world."

So I replied: "Maybe it won't mean the end of the world to you, but if he cuts my public assistance any more, I'M GOING TO BE OUT ON THE FUCKING STREET! Maybe you don't care about people like me who are too disabled to work outside the home for a living, which would explain why you don't think it's going to be disastrous. But until you're in my shoes, DON'T TELL ME what's the end of the world and what isn't."

Further along in this person's post was the gem: "And please remember the world is not ending."

So I tried to make this person understand that, just because he/she has a job and is doing OK, there are millions more people for whom Bush's policies ARE rather like the end of the world:

Maybe not to you, but it sure as hell is to me.

You're not the one who has to listen to your aging mother (70) and aunt (73, stroke and congestive heart failure patient) crying over money, feeling massive guilt because you can't work to make the money that would pay these bills and leave something extra.

You're not the one who's facing the second Christmas in a row during which no gifts are exchanged, because all the money has to go to pay bills.

You're not the one who has to face the humiliation of asking local churches for help...and, because they're being so swamped with needy people, never knowing if/when they'll be able to help.

You're not the one who has to face the nervewracking prospect of facing a disability judge within the next 60 days, knowing you're going to be turned down because they're getting more applicants and less funding.

You're not the one who's had your family's food stamps cut to $130/month for three people (two of whom are on special diets for medical problems, so we can't just stock up on cheap canned high-sodium food).

Hope is on the way, all right...on the way out the f***ing door, thanks to people like you. Just because all's right in your world, you think that the world isn't going to end because of Bush.

Well, for those of us here in Reality Land, the end is a lot closer than it's ever been before. And if my suffering offends you, and if my objection to the theft of our nation's democracy offends you, then go Cheney yourself.

So the moderator, not wanting to hear about the suffering of real Americans, replied: "Hinachen*, you're all over the map here. Remember, I cautioned everyone to stick to the topic at hand. Please take your side-discussions to the appropriate threads."

*The mod kept deliberately misspelling my screen name, and singled me out for criticism, in spite of the fact that EVERYONE on that thread was "all over the map". And actually, my arguments WERE on-topic because I was explaining to this person and a few others, why people were so upset with Kerry...whether one agrees or not, a forum should be a place for debate. The only reason I was singled out here was that I had made an impassioned argument that the mod's pet butt-barnacle couldn't attack, without looking like a total scumsucker.

I'd been getting tired of this "worship Kerry, no matter what, and don't dare disagree with anything he does" tone of that forum, and it was just really reaching a boiling point for a lot of people after 11-3-04. The mod's personal attack on me was just the legendary straw that broke the camel's back. So I replied:

The topic at hand was people like you flaming people like me (and don't worry, I know damned good and well I was one of the people you were whining about). I was explaining why you were out of line. That's 100% on-topic, whether you care to admit it or not.

I'd like to (take your side-discussions to the appropriate threads), but there is no thread for "people who at least pretend to give a damn that someone on this board is on the verge of homelessness and starvation." Oh, wait, I know why there's no such thread here...in the immortal words of Mike Dukakis, "A fish rots from the head first!"

Thanks for your "sympathy". There's a special place in hell for people like you.

Of course, the mod deleted that post, being that it exposed his reprehensible lack of compassion.

Elsewhere on the thread (you're probably getting the idea that I was definitely not alone in being PO-ed at the mods), someone else found one of his posts deleted: "Guess SmirkyChimp didn't like my last post. It just disappeared. Nice to know that Smirk isn't the only one with a Gestapo. Censorship is alive and well on SC." To which I added, "You can say that again. SIEG HEIL! SIEG HEIL!"

Another post he deleted was my response to his threat that, "The next person to shit on this thread gets banned. How do you all like that?"

By that time, I'd had it, and replied, "Love it! I request that you ban me, f***face, because that'll save me the time and effort of having to close my own account."

Of course, he deleted that post, too, and made it look as if it was his idea to ban me, instead of a response to my request to be banned:

He pretended to reply to just the "Sieg heil" post, and wrote, "I guarantee that when the now-banned Hinachen tries to post and finds he can't, he will be genuinely mystified and wonder why he's being treated so unfairly."

OK, now here are the funny parts of all this:

1) I made this guy do exactly as I asked him to, within seconds of my request. Treated unfairly? Hell, that's the fastest service I've ever gotten online! :D

2) I already had two other accounts on that board set up ages ago, after my first encounter with the "thread locked for no good reason" gestapo. So I can view and post to that board any time I like. Which isn't often, since I've grown to like DU a lot better, since late October. But the fact is, this guy couldn't stop me from posting every five minutes, if I so desired.

3) The fact that he deleted my posts that referred to his lack of sympathy for a victim of Bushonomics proves that he knows damned good and well he's in the wrong, and probably feared that people would have sided in with me after reading about my plight. It's not like I was intending to attack people indiscriminately, I was trying to make them understand just how bad it is here in "Bush country". Anyone like this mod, who doesn't care that two 70-something little old ladies are crying over lack of money...there truly is a special place in hell for someone like that.

No, I don't feel *I* was treated unfairly, Mr. Moderator. I feel that you are on a level with George W. Bush, because you don't care about the elderly. They're the ones being treated unfairly, every day of the year.

Please folks...pray for them, or just send them some good vibes, if you're not of a religious bent. :)

I know there are sometimes people here who post some obnoxious stuff (the thread about under-18 posters is a good example), but overall, DU weeds out the trolls, while still allowing for freer discussion. That's the #1 thing I like best about DU! :D
