Student's shirt spurs review of rules
By MICHELE BESSO / The News Journal
11/23/2004

A school's decision to order a student to cover a political statement on a T-shirt has led the Appoquinimink School District to plan a review of its policies to ensure free speech rights are balanced against the educational mission of the district.

Freedom of speech issues will be addressed at the district level on a case-by-case basis while the guidelines are reviewed, officials said Monday.

Once the review is complete, a guide will be developed, and administrators will get training to ensure consistency and legal compliance.

Steven Truszkowski, a student at Everett Meredith Middle School in Middletown, wore a white, short-sleeve T-shirt to school Friday with the words "The Real Terrorist Is In The White House" written in black on the front and "End The Tyranny" written on the back.

3. I don't think he'd be available for adoption...

2. Steven Truszkowski: Profile in Courage
Edited on Tue Nov-23-04 06:42 AM by Cooley Hurd
In this climate, it takes the biggest, brassest balls to wear a shirt like that. If that were my son, I'd be both extremely proud and extremely fearful that they'd take him away to GITMO.

What a great kid!!!!

6. On election day, my 13 y/o wore a shirt that said "BU**SH**" to school...
(unbeknownst to me, I might add) His school is a polling place, thankfully he was only told to cover it up. We're in a freeperville county.

7. It is not those who wear T-Shirts like that of Steven Truszkowski who are
attempting against our Constitution, our Democracy, or our United States. IT THOSE WHO attempt to silence the Truszkowskis in our shores who are the enemy combatants attempting against our democracy and these United States.

On December 15, 1791 the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States (part of a package of ten Amendments known also as The Bill of Rights) was ratified by the United States Congress-to wit:

AMENDMENT ONE

Freedom of Religion, of Speech and of the Press

CONGRESS SHALL MAKE NO LAW RESPECTING AN ESTABLISHMENT OF RELIGION,

OR PROHIBITING THE FREE EXERCISE THEREOF; OR ABRIDGING THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH, OR OF THE PRESS;

OR THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE PEACEABLY TO ASSEMBLE, AND TO PETITION THE GOVERNMENT FOR A REDRESS OF GRIEVANCE? ...

It seems to me that Truszkowski’s T-shirt is within bounds. It also seems to me that the trespasser of people's rights and against the Constitution of the United States is the Bush administration who in direct opposition to said Constitution of the United States, The Bill of Rights, and Amendment One, wants, through emotionally charged lies and misdirectives, along with a jackbooted state, to keep citizens from their Right to Freedom of Speech, whether through having students ordered to cover their T-shirts, arresting teachers for questioning Bush policies, ordering dissenters into what the Bush Police State calls FREE SPEECH ZONES, firing CIA employees who do not support Bush policies and on, and on, and on!

The American Revolution had its own honorable and valiant souls then. Truszkowski is one of today's honorable and valiant souls.

15. I Guess The School Authorities Can't Handle The Truth
To use a phrase that was popular when I was in high school almost 35 years ago, Steven Truszkowski appears to have all his shit in one sock.
