I just dropped my dogs off at the Kennel for a week- sort of sad.
Edited on Tue Nov-23-04 11:24 AM by Wcross
I just dropped off my six dogs for a six day stay at my vets kennel. I am having the four guys neutered while they are there. The last thing I saw before they shut the door was Curly looking at me with a "HELP- don't leave me" look on his face. I hope he knows I will come back for him. I didn't want to leave them on their own for a week and this was my only real alternative. Moe and Larry were shaking the whole way there. I feel so mean for leaving them there but at least they will be together.

1. I know how you feel. Whenever I leave my cats (they stay at home)when
I travel, and a friend takes care of them) they look at me like "How can you do this?" When they were spayed, they stayed overnight at the vets, and they were just howling when I had to go. It's heart-breaking, and I don't think they'll ever not like it!

2. Ohh, it is so heartbreaking, isn't it?
It really is good to get your dog used to doggy daycare maybe day a week or so, so that being left is not so stressful (on either of you). If you know they have fun (and they know they have fun) with other dogs and that you always come back for them, it is a lot easier.

Wrenching, though, I agree. Probably why I haven't vacationed without my "little girl" in so long!

3. bahh...
I used to work at a vet's kennel. They'll be running around, barking and getting plenty of attention while your gone if it's a reputable vet's office. Virtual kings of the tail waggers club of America.

Although there's nothing like the excited reunion you'll get when you come back. They may have a little less to lick, but I bet they smother you with love when you come home.

4. I've got three dogs and I couldn't do it, they wouldn't forgive me.
One of my dogs, Jasper is a bag of nerves, and hates me leaving, even to just go shopping. I have not been on holiday for ten years , but don't mind really as they make me happy every day.:)

5. Curly is beautiful!
What a sweet expression on that face. They'll miss you, you'll miss them, but all will be well when you're together again. Dogs rule!

6. The Last Time We Boarded Our Girls...
...was when we went to Texas for a week in September. A few days into the trip I called the kennel to see how they were doing. I was told that Della (our cat) and Pearl (our younger dog) were doing fine, but Peanut (our older dog) was moping around.

When we got back and I went to pick the girls up, the attendant told be that Peanut seemed sad. I went with her back into the kennel area and as we turned the corner, Peanut saw me and started doing her "happy dance" - jumping up and down with a big smile on her face.

I know we'll be going throught the same thing next month when we board them again for another week...

7. I know the feeling.
I'm foregoing Christmas with the family in AZ this year so I don't hafta put my pups up. The young one, Stangle, has never been kenneled before, and he's only now 11 weeks old. He and I need to bond more. And the older one, Althea, is over 10 now, and I don't feel like I can leave her kenneled for a week, 'cause who knows how much more time I've got with her? It'll be a nice, quiet holiday at home for me and the pups. I figure it'll be a nice change.

8. I would never, never leave my dog in a kennel again
Several years ago, I went to Colorado for 4 days and boarded my dog at her vet's. I had to get her a shot for kennel cough. When I picked her up she almost broke the door down to get out to pee. They had not taken her out and it was 9 a.m. And she got kennel cough anyway.
