I've hung out with them on a couple of occasions when they were touring. Great music and attitude! I thought i was the only one. I think they may have called it quits, or at least taken a break.
I noticed that iTunes Music Store has some of their music.

One of the great Brit bands. Singer Jackie Leven is still active and they recorded a live reunion album a few years back. Unfortunately, Cookin Vinyl, the world's laziest record label, owns all rights so nothing they did is available on CD.
But if and when their stuff comes out, their first album, Remember, is a stunner. All the rest is good too, but that first album still knocks me out.
Think Van Morrison but hard rock.

They're a very cool band from Athens, GA, the same town as R.E.M. They're opening for R.E.M. on their tour this fall, which will definitely expose them to a wider audience, which is really cool because they're a small band that deserves to be famous and sell millions of records.

That is following the criteria that if I had seen a band live at one time, they were then at least popular enough to be known by enough people to have gone on tour.
Because I have seen Mistle Thrush and Jarboe live, I have to discount them.
I would say Dir en Grey, but they are well known in Japan, so therefore discounted.
Therefore I choose Vomit Launch, or as my freind says, they are like a poodle named spike. They name sounds like a punk band, but their music sounds like a witty progressive band.
But then again, my freind knows about Vomit Launch, so that would discount them.
But if I post here the name of another band nobody knows about, then you guys will then know about them, and therefore discount them.

I guess Broslum won some awards this year or last and according to a friend's brother they hadn't even recorded or released anything yet but they are young and very talented so I am told. Thanks, it is nice to find someone that knew the Tannies so...

both English blues/rock bands that never got the attention they deserved in the '60s/early 70s.' shared some members i think. some of savoy brown later became part of a much weaker band, Foghat.
Try and find Spooky Tooth's version of "Smokestack Lightning" if you can. It's perfect.

46. FOUR :: Dave Van Ronk, John Fahey, neu!, and Faust |
|
Had to ID my four latest favorite unsung artists.
The first has deep roots in the early 1960s Village folk scene. Maybe some know about him and his influence. If you don't...you should.
The second is an extremely talented avant guard guitar picker, with crazy chord structures as you've never ever heard before.
The latter two helped spearhead the way-ahead-of-its-time "Krautrock" movement of the 1970s.

Of course, CAN is the real shit! Once folks hear Tago Mago, Future Days or Ege Bamyasi, there's absolutely no turning back. I recently came across some really hot bootleg recordings of theirs from the early 1970s and few vcds. Happy to share with fellow DUers. Feel free to drop me a PM if interested.

Especially the records you mentioned. (I thought I was the only fan of Future Days in the world!)
Given that you also like Fahey, do you know about the band Cul de Sac? A guitarist who takes after Fahey, except he plays electric guitars (processed through a truckload of effects boxes), started the band with a synth player who prefers old analog gear and is much more interested in twiddling the knobs than in playing the keyboard. I was their bassist for a couple years, but I didn't stay with them long enough to do their American tour with Damo. (Dammit. Live CD out real soon.)

Any vibes that bridge Fahey and Can are vibes for me. That's for sure. I do recall he was collaborating with Damo when they came here to Atlanta. Missed the show (marriage tends to have that sort of effect on one's concert-going).
Interesting to hear about your stint as bassist. I'm sure new opportunities and better have crept up! :D
Future Days was my baptism into the world of Can. Couldn't get enough after that one.

NJ local band...had a couple of good albums...attracted some of the Phish audience for a time. A blending of rock, jazz, folk, Celtic and jam-band influences.
All three albums available on Amazon.

Local band -- plays nightclubs and summer festivals. Whenever I'm listening to their CD, someone always asks me who it is.

72. All my obscure ones got famous! |
|
I loved Franz Ferdinand and Scissor Sisters before they were known in the US, and now they're huge! hehe :D
Then there are local Seattle bands, like Vendetta Red, I've talked to a few people outside of Washington who know them.

Well tons of people know about them, but 99% of those people live in Japan. J-Rock fandom is still pretty small over here, but growing.
MM was a pioneering visual band that was in the goth end of the visual spectrum. I love all their stuff, but my favorite album has to be "merveilles". Gackt Camui has a voice that's positively orgasmic.
Their keyboardist/guitarist, Mana, is my avatar. Yes, that's a man.

82. Creeper Lagoon . Anybody heard their stuff? |
|
Unfortunatly they broke up a couple years ago. I flipped when I saw David Cross wearing a Creeper t-shirt on an old Mr. Show episode. I caught on to them when they were past their prime by a year or 2.

89. Santa Fe - I don't know if they're even together any more |
|
They played Las Vegas clubs in the early to mid 80's. A great relief from the disco that was popular then. They called their style ghetto funk.
Dang I miss those guys.

Such as Theatre of Tragedy, Aesma Daeva, Battlelore, Dargaard, Heart (probably heard of them actually), Lacuna Coil, Tristania, Within Temptation, etc.

99. PEOPLE, PLEASE! Don't post bands that millions of people know! |
|
God, I don't know why that irritates me so badly, but when you open a thread that's supposed to be bands NOBODY knows and see commercial and critical successes like the GERALDINE FIBBERS for chrissakes, it defeats the whole purpose!
/end rant

Canadian(Newfoundland I think) band with a Celtic bent. Pretty popular in Canada from what I understand but not so much so down here...still they tour in this area (Washington DC) once a year and I usually manage to catch them
