Songs that deserve to be in the Classic FM Rock Radio canon: |
|
The Classic FM rock radio canon has been the same for years and years -- "Stairway to Heaven", "Freebird", "Baba O'Reilly", etc., etc. etc. More songs deserve to included in that canon, break up the monotony.
Here are some songs that I believe would fit quite nicely on classic rock radio, but you never hear played. They have that same sonic "presence" that would burst out of the car stereo speakers , the same halcyon summer day's and night's epic "grandeur" that classic rock songs convey, or otherwise rock in the classic rock style:
the MC5: "Over and Over"
Small Faces: "Autumn Stone"
Television: "Marquee Moon"
Slade: "Bangin' Man", "How Does It Feel?"
Booker T and the MG's: "Melting Pot"
Big Star: "Watch the Sunrise" (or pretty much 1/3 of the Big Star catalogue)
the Move: "Fields of People"
Tommy James and the Shondells: "Ball of Fire", "Sweet Cherry Wine"
Moby Grape: "Can't You See Me?"

2. "I don't want our loving to die" by the Herd |
|
1967, featuring a cherubic Peter Frampton as lead vocal. Maybe just a tad bubblegummish for classic rock but certainly rock heritage. and it would definitely burst out of speakers.

6. Fairport Convention's cover of "Time Will Show the Wiser"... |
|
...originally by Emitt Rhodes/The Merry-Go-Round.
Also, about 25% of the Roxy Music discography. "Love Is the Drug" shows up occasionally, but what about "Whirlwind", "Prairie Rose", "Just Another High", "Virginia Plain", "Do the Strand", "Mother of Pearl", "All I Want is You", "Both Ends Burning", "Still Falls the Rain", etc.

classic rock radio is still playing the same old 60's and early 70's sh@t they were playing in the early 80's when i was listening to it...so if it was true to form...you know..led zepplin and the stones were 20 years old when i was listening to it...and moved 19 years ahead to this day from say, 1985, the music classic stations SHOULD be playing would be groups like quiet riot, van halens 1984 and diver down albums, WASP, judas priest and iron maiden, not to mention more motley crue and ratt....yes, classic rock stations should now be chock full of all the old hair band rock, as well as some early 90's stuff from soundgarden, alice in chains and pearl jam...hell, even nirvana!!! to be fair, we are hearing guns and roses, def leppard and some selected van halen tracks now and again, but lets face it...they are still playing magic carpet ride 6 times a day here...i'm sure the formula is the same nationwide........god, let me program music for these stations......

I fail to see how this NEVER makes any "top" list, not here anyway. Im so sick of the same old songs being the top 10.
