2. Don't forget 'leadership' and 'hate us for our freedom'

3. What are morals, and who makes em?
If no god, then those in power (* and such) make them, because without any controlling higher authority than the highest authority with respect to the human race (and perhaps evolution) are those with the most power - in which case * is our supreme ruler and answers to no one.

I would like to think we all have morals of some sort. Questions are, I guess, who backs em up and where do they come from, and who makes em the 'right' ones? Might makes right, and from a humanist perspective - right now we don't make jack. Our morals (whatever they are, and wherever we came up with them) can only be of value when we use them, because those in power now set the morals for the majority through laws and the means to enforce them - and they have nothing to fear when we are complacent because there is (some would say) nothing spiritual in the universe, there is only us and power.

Moral forces will continue to battle on ideals we all think are right, in the end there are only two outcomes - one, there is a god and god will make it right by a big smack down on those who leave his moral arena, or there is no god and mankind is the highest power on this earth in which case * and his RW folks are gods of power and all our arguing is pointless without the power needed to make our morals the law.

Perhaps people get depressed because either way things seem lost. No creator of any type and * is the power, in an evolution sort of way, and is higher than we are (in position and ability to make his ideals real) or there is a god and we have to accept that some things humans does might be subjected to the scrutiny of a higher power (from abortion on down the line maybe).

there is, perhaps, no such thing as a moral authority - which makes * being in power all the more scary. From a humanist perspective he is the highest leader in this entire world as he wields the most power, and as long as those who agree with him like his power and decisions we, on the lower rungs of the ladder, are screwed by own reasoning (ie, there is nothing other than man and science, and man in power makes the laws and has nothing to fear in the next life - and since he has power now has little to fear in this life either). Based on that, why would he ever give an inch to anyone, and why should he? If life is all about ourself and making the best life we can than he is in a great position for that, and he should use it all he can.

No afterlife, no creator, no reason why we should not admire those who have used this life to do all they want for themselves - for they are truly successful and we are just little people. A sad state of affairs. Of course we could take power over time, in which case we would make the morals and right - but how different would we really be? If we 'feel' others are just as deserving as we are, why? Why should we care about our fellow man at all, other than how we think it may benefit us (which is caring more about ourselves than them)?

I dunno, just ranting about things in general and trying to understand the overall ideals of life :)
