Fellow Lasik people - I am two days postop. |
|
Really 1-1/2 days since it was yesterday morning. Everything is still a little fuzzy. I had a big correction (-9) and they said they take a little longer to heal than the less severe ones. I still have that foreign body sensation in one eye - the one that had a little bit of swelling on the flap. They told me I would be at 90% of my permanent correction and healing in a week. I think I am a little disappointed because I have heard so many people say they were back up and running and at work the next day. Basically I am just being a little impatient. Also I got the monovision (only 85% correction in the non-dominant eye so I can read) and it is going to take some time to get used to. I can tell my distance vision is going to be really good. So encourage me, people! I'm gonna love it, right?

2. Actually I'm a woman :) |

I have a genderless name but last time I looked I was still of the female persuasion. Thanks for the encouragement.

3. How much did it set you back? |
|
I was just wondering. Thinking about doing it too.

my mother in law's gardner got in in Puerto Rico, and he is now blind as a result of it - can't even support his own family anymore.
My friend in New Mexico got it and he has to put in eye drops all the time to wet his eyes.
I'm not a big fan of permanant body modification, if it is not necessary. Soft contact lenses are convenient enough.

6. Next door neighbors just had it done. |

Mid 30s. She came through with flying colors, he had a problem. He's been back in for two "corrections"(?) and seems to be doing better now.

I don't have experience with Lasik myself, but I have a correction similar to yours (actually a bit worse), so am very interested in how it turns out for you.
I sure hope the recovery goes smoothly, as it sounds like it is so far.
:hi:
Best of luck to you, Peter

8. I've never regretted it, neither has my SO. |
|
Don't get overly concerned with it. Everyone heals differently.
My SO was crystal clear right out of the gate. I was blurry on day one, but pretty good by day 2. She ended up having to get a redo on one eye, and I am still fine.

I also had to have astigmatism corrected, as well as severe near-sightedness, so I did not have clear vision right away either -- indeed I could hardly see. Then I woke up in the middle of the night and looked out at the backyard and wow!!!!
It was months before I stopped feeling around for my glasses when I woke up in the morning, but I had been wearing glasses/contacts since I was 8.
It's the best thing I ever did for myself. Of course, now, the same surgeon, for the same procedure, is only charging around $500 an eye...but it was worth it to go ahead and get it done. I just wish it had been available to do 20 years ago, when my eyes first stabilized.
Eventually you may need reading glasses anyway but it still beats bifocals by a long shot!
On Edit: Not to brag how fast I recovered but I was actually able to drive myself to the surgeon's office for my check-up the day after. But he said that it can take up to 3 weeks for some people to heal and yet they still have a good result. I've had lots of friends and family have it done, and everyone has been very happy with it even with the different recovery times. Go you!
