The Stories of English: Thoughts? |
|
The NYT ran a review of a new book called "The Stories of English" by David Crystal. It looks very interesting, though I wonder if it's too detail heavy or if others are planning to read it. The review was very praiseworthy; I just wonder if others have read or plan to read it so that I can make a good call.

I read it when it first came out as a companion to the PBS mini-series of the same name in the mid 80's.
Excellent excellent book. Highly recommended.
But I know nothing of "The Stories of English". (I should read posts more carefully. )

The film could be interesting, too. I''ve never heard of it. In fact, I didn't even know there was a group of academics who study the history of English until I read today's NYT review.
