Do you watch the parades on Thanksgiving Day? |
|
Macy's, etc?
I used to...but I just can't stand listening to the stupid commentary.

Used to love them, now having the TV on but muted is the only way I can handle it.

3. yes my son kind of likes it |
|
but the talking heads are sure insipid. And every other segment is an ad for some inane tv show or spokesmodel/ "singer" etc. But I do like some of the Broadway show stuff.
The holiday parade from Detroit ( forget what it is called, I saw it when dialing around one year) is kind of cool, though, not slick at all.

4. I never understood what the hubbub was about. |
|
Giant cartoon characters floating through the air, endless marching bands, minor celebriti adorning floats, and vacuous commentary from NBC's "Today" show "news" team.
Everyone loves a parade. Just not me.:)

6. I used to watch the Phila. parade with my mother |
|
but now it's been taken over by Disney and makes me sick.
I do still love our Mummer's parade on New Year's Day (or, as Philadelphians call it "Mummers Day Parade"). Totally un-commercial and unique.

|
is hideous beyond words. One fucking giant plug for Disney, Inc. DisneyWorld...Regis Philbin at his smarmiest...so fucking cute it makes your teeth hurt.

14. Seeing them live is great! I went to the Philly one back in the 80s |
|
and there is NOTHING more amazing than seeing The Rose Bowl Parade live. I've seen it a couple of times in person. How it looks on TV does not compare to the beautiful colors live!

8. Nope, televised parades are a weird idea to me. |
|
Of course, I don't like televised sports either; rather go there if I'm gonna watch a game; so maybe it's a disconnect thing.

10. Yes, but they've RUINED it |
|
We used to always watch the big four - New York, Philadelphia, Detroit, and Toronto. They have slowely eroded the other cities; now they just show New York and for a while Hawaii!!!! I really miss seeing the Detroit parade. Once in a while some network like PBS or HGTV will show it - I still like the Macy's parade, but now they tape delay it on the West Coast, so I can't watch both it and the Lions' game. It stinks. I love parades.

15. The Macy's parade . . . |
|
. . . is sooooo much better to see in person if you can. The commentary on TV is really stilted and lame.
But whattheheck, I still watch it. It's a tradition!

19. If I'm home, I'll watch the Detroit parade |
|
It's not the same as when I was a kid, and Hudson's and all the other stores were downtown. As there is no more Hudson's, it's currently sponsored by the family that owns Art Van furniture.
I hate the Macy's parade, at least on tv. Too many performers, not enough floats. The balloons aren't all that.

you get to see the briefcase drill team! I love them.
Detroit has always been good about having high school marching bands, which are one of my very favorite parts.

I grew up in Detroit. When my sister and I were much younger we would take the bus to downtown and shop at Hudson's, eat lunch and catch a movie.
I remember the Hudson Thanksgiving parade. My fond memories of downtown Detroit were the store windows at Christmastime. Our children have lost so much.
After living in Detroit moved to Chicago. At that time downtown was great, Marshall Fields, Carson Prarie Scott, Crowleys and Wieboldts. It was always a treat to go downtown.... now it is to the nearest puke mall where every mall is the same. The same stores, the same advertising, the same old crap.
So sad, there is nothing for our children to hold on to.
