My boss' cat got shot the other day... |
|
She lives way out in the country, and the other day her husband called her at work to tell her that their crazy redneck neighbors shot their cat. She hasn't been in the office since then, but apparently the cat lived. She's eating and drinking, but still bleeding.
I hate rednecks...

2. She's trying. Apparently this has happened before with her animals. |
|
But the police don't really do anything about it.

A few years ago they passed a law here in New York making it a felony to abuse pets. I think it's called "Buster's Law".

9. If they have the means, they should sue |
|
Seriously.
Of course, crazy rednecks who go around shooting neighbor's animals aren't likely to abide by any judgement against them.
Man, that's infuriating.

16. Tell her to shoot back at them |
|
Just make sure you hide behind a tree or a big rock. Don't aim to hit them or anything. Just to let them know you don't fuck around and that you mean business when someone abuses your "property" (as law considers pets, unfortunately).
If your local law enforcement does NOTHING about the cat shooting, they're likely to stay out of internal affairs like this. They damage your property, you damage theirs. You have a precedent here if they did nothing about the cat.

Did they even make a slight effort to explain themselves?
You should press charges.

I would never shoot a cat or a dog, especially some ones pet. That is utterly cruel and reprehensible behavior.

6. she should go to the police and say it's a public safety issue |
|
if they don't do something about it, she's going to shoot her neighbor. That's public safety.

11. It's terrible they shot the cat |
|
I don't know whats wrong with people. I do think people should try to keep their cats inside. I've seen at least 7 cats that have been hit by cars this year. Cats also kill huge numbers of birds (I mean in the hundreds of millions of birds in one year). Please look at these links: http://www.lcshelter.com/cat%20predation%20on%20birds.htmhttp://www.abcbirds.org/cats/http://www.wildbirds.com/protect_cats.htm

My hideous redneck neighbor pooisoned 3 of my dogs with antifreeze and the cops agreed that he did it but they were NOT interested in performing an investigation. Call all local TV stations and write newpapers and they may be able to light a fire under the police if they publicize this crime!!!!

15. Keep your animals indoors or penned. |
|
While I would never harm or advocate harming someone's pet, dogs and cats that run loose can be annoying to neighbors.
My neighbor's dog constantly uses my yard as it's bathroom; it's like walking through a mine field. It also periodically digs in my flower beds.
Cats can do the same, along with tearing out garbage.
Pet owners need to be more responsible.

18. we put in a fenced area for our 2 dogs and cat..... cats ranging wild kill |
|
native species, it is said in England the song bird population is doomed, they will soon be extinct on the island.
I do not condone the shooting of animals, I would trap them and return them... they may have game or stock on their property they feel they are defending the way red necks do.. hell we have a neighbor that hunts dove next door in his back yard with a shotgun.
I have a sling shot i use on the neighbors dogs that start fights with my dogs through the fence.. there are 4 to 6 of them running in a pack.. I am afraid of them and never go out unarmed, staff or ammonia spray bottle. the police wont do anything about it.
the neighbors 2 cats would kill birds on our back porch at the feeders till we put in the fence..4 or 5 a week.. and not eat them.
They also need to be more responsible for their pets. all ours are rescued pets from situations where they were not responsibly cared for, and they are spayed, neutered and contained or on a leash.
I moved onto a farm property that had some chicken houses in a rural area when i was first married, they said they had gotten rid of most of the cats, then pointed to 4 garbage cans FULL of dead feral cats.. he then gave me real nice Colt 22 rifle and asked me to take care of any stragglers.. These cats kill the chickens and rabbets in the cages from the outside.. i have seen many rabbets and chickens with their intestines shredded out through the cages and some still alive.. I can say i don't blame farmers for protecting their stock they cant tell tabby from vermin when tabby is doing the same thing.

19. This is something I live in fear of daily. |
|
I have four cats, they all live inside only. Two of them try to escape if you are not fast at the door.
Three doors down from me (we live on 5 acre tracks) is a nut-case that shoots cats. I have called the police on him for shooting cats before and they did nothing. I was told we don't have animal control for out county and there is not much they can do about it. I tried to talk him into trapping them and letting me take them to the shelter. I even told him I have traps he can use. He said he would think about it, then a week later I heard him shooting again! I do trap and catch strays on my property and take them to the shelter. I always check around first though to see if anyone is missing their kitty.
The really sad part of the story is he moved here from a blue state. He's from CA. I really don't like that man!
