U2's new album: B-minus
The magic just isn't there. Even "Atchung Baby", not a very good record by any means, had one or two killer songs. But "How To Dismantle An Atom Bomb" has none at all; only several competent but far from inspired songs produced in a kind of "U2-lite" mode.

After regaining their touch with "All That You Can't Leave Behind", U2 has taken a step back towards to their 90's mediocrity.

1. they were always a B-level band
if they were a boxer, they'd be a mid-carder.

They're a notch below Bruce Springsteen & The E-Street Band, but probably on the same level as Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.

5. The problem is you underestimate them both ...
Both are two of the best bands of the rock genre. To argue which is better if futile, since they are two totally different artists--it would be comparing apples and oranges.

6. I'll stick with R.E.M.
Their album sales may not be at their peak but they are consistent in making great albums.
