Twelve, count 'em TWELVE Clark-hysteria threads on the front page of GD alone...and that's only twelve with the name 'Clark' in the title.
Way to be, DU. Way to 'debate.' I'm glad all those other crummy threads got smashed down into the archives. They sucked, anyway.

112. So you have no idea what the Shakespeare quote means. |
|
Hamlet's mother and he watch a play where a character is saying how much she loves her husband. The mother says, "The lady doth protest too much, methinks." The meaning is that the mother feels guilty for the death of her husband and marrying the man who killed him. My quote was to say that you have started threads(including this one) that were intended to start hostility and insults. Your "protest" was ironic then, because you were among those you were "protesting" against. Not a "glutton for punishment", but hoping you actually had some knowledge behind your condescending sarcasm. You apparently do not.

87. Yes, I do have an idea. Thanks for your interest. |
|
It was from a Shakespeare play, I believe it in response to Desdemona. (from memory here). The reply, "The lady doth protest too much," means that the person speaking is guilty of what she is protesting against; that someone loudly objecting does it from guilt. Will has been writing insults and hate filled posts today, calling people "godamed stupid." Filling threads with people writing insults. Yes I do know what I am talking about: You wrote a condescending reply because you think it can't be possible someone other than yourself is intelligent or informed. And notice I did not say I am correct on Shakespeare, that it is from my memory. Let's discuss it it that is what you intended.

that General Clark is a PNAC Trojan horse. In other words, another Bush* in a different skin.
That is cause for many DUers to flip out and eschew their sometimes good discussion threads.
I've avoided those threads because they are so hysterical and I'm not sure that there is much to see worth seeing. Maybe when it calms down and the smoke clears we will get a better picture of the guy.
I also understand that the Clark supporters fervently believe he is the only Dem who can beat Bush* and that they are going overboard to try to rip other candidates apart to gain support for Clark, a tactic which may have dubious results.
Another four years of Bush* is not some hypothetical discussion issue for many here. He is killing our children and husbands and wives in Iraq and murdering tens of thousands of Iraqis. He has thrown millions out of work and enabled white collar criminals to loot peoples' retirement accounts and get away with it. He may try to draft my two sons if he gets re-selected. This guy is a brute and he is "amongst us". I understand the shrieking and shrill nature of the partisans. My blood is boiling. The current state of panic on the discussion boards is not helpful, but in time i hope it will settle down.
However, I understand. We are talking about life and death here. Literally.

That's the exact word I was looking for. This board is pure bedlam today. And it's coming equally from all directions, people who are in a panic about Clark and people who are defensive of Clark. I'm not sure I like the guy, but he gets that Bush is leading this nation down a dangerous path and that's a good place for him to start. I think I'm going to just work today, participate in the evil capitalist system and all of that!

In fairness, he/she did try to say that those going after Clark because they think he is a PNAC trojan plant are causing "many DUers to flip out and eschew their sometimes good discussion threads."
And if you've been bashed by any Kerry supporters, I want to extend my own apologies. There are a couple who get a little overzealous. And do try to differentiate people who are concerned, like me for instance, from the rather crazy comments I've seen as well. And know that as long as Clark does well, it just isn't going to stop. You simply will not be able to post anything on Clark without hearing he said he supported the war. Or he voted for Reagan. Or whatever, it will just go on and on and on. Forewarned is forearmed and all of that! Good luck with your guy!

|
express strong interest in the newest Democratic candidate?
I remain a supporter of Kucinich. I'm appalled at the pointless bashing threads that seem to have taken over GD lately, most of which are rife with ridiculous hyperbole or disinformation.
I thought (in *my* "Clark hysteria" thread) that we could clear the air a bit and encourage people try to state a real case about their support or opposition, without the crazy bullshit. Some of the most opinionated and prolific candidate posters lately (on both pro and con sides) are people I never saw posting before. It leads me to suspicion about them and about their chosen (worship or target) candidate.

75. Ideas: keep kicking threads |
|
Go back and find good threads, and if you can't think of anything to add, kick them.
Honestly, all this Clark Clark Clark is driving people away.
Go find some political articles online and post them for discussion.

It was weird. It was like freepers attacking, only on DU. I was accused of being an agent of Karl Rove, of being exactly the same as Hannity, Limbaugh, etc.
I love to debate, I love to argue. I was expecting a lot of converesation, but not what I got.

117. Some of these hysteric posts sound like arguments between 8 year olds |
|
As I have said ad nauseum, I do not want to attack any DEM or Dem supporter personally. There are ways to constructive critisize a Dem candidate w/o putting their supporters on the defensive. I have seen about two constructive posts versus 30 and then some for the flamebaits. If you engage in these kind of posts, just remember you are probably not winning any supporters to your side because they get ticked off by grandstanding and confrontive rhetoric.
My eyes are in the future in 2004 when we HOPEFULLY can get Bushco out of office. That IMHO is the most important objective, and just blasting DEMS we may not agree about is not getting us there.

Maybe that is the problem. Some threads are serious, some, like this, were started by someone who just wanted to insult people. And he actually thinks he's not a cause of the problem he wants cured.

When there were lots of Kerry threads, mine said Kerry should drop out for the good of the party. A few people liked the idea, most people didn't. Others merely said it was too soon.
John Kerry's not a leader, he's just a face in the crowd. He didn't have the guts to vote AGAINST the war. Fellow Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy has remained consistent throughout, and is now calling the war a fraud. Yeay, Ted Kennedy!! Kerry is trying to stay consistent but doesn't want to present himself as the kind of politician who gets taken in. Boo, John Kerry!!
Somebody should start a thread about that. However, nobody's really interested. John Kerry is OLD NEWS. He should withdraw for the good of the party.
