1. If it works for you, DO IT
I'm a child of divorce, now happily married for 8+ years-- longer than my parents' marriage.

Watching how NOT to have a marriage, IMHO, really helps you understand how to have a marriage that works. If I start doing sh!t my dad did, I stop doing it.

Besides, it's not just a tax break or piece of paper. It's a committment you make to yourselves in front of society. That's the coolest part.

2. I would like to be married
But I don't really want to do it legally. I'm seriously considering cutting the government out of my entire marriage. It's none of their damn business. Just me, my lady, and our faith.

Of course, I gotta find a lady who shares that opinion with me.

3. I could never imagine being married
even as a kid, I realized that I would never be able to tolerate someone at close proximity for any length of time.

7. I don't care for the legal entanglements of marriage, either
Divorce is too messy, financially.

Living with someone is preferable.

11. On the other hand -
living with someone can get you screwed. Financially, that is.

I lived with my oldest daughter's father for about half of our three-year relationship. We bought a piece of property together. When I left him for being the world's biggest asshole, he proved himself an even bigger asshole by selling that property and keeping the profits.

I was young (18 when we met and almost 22 when we split) and stupid. I gave him all the money in my savings account toward that piece of property, but my name was not on the deed. He gave me nothing back when he sold it. If we had been married, I would have been entitled to my share of the money from that sale.

Of course, I do have to admit that I am glad NOW that I didn't marry him, as we would surely be divorced now anyway.

9. Not in any hurry to do it again.
I like the concept theoretically, but I wouldn't want to mess it up again.

16. "If you want to be happy for the rest of your life..."
...never make a pretty woman your wife
So from my personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you... Marry Someone Who Can Cook!"

"Hey, Man, I saw your wife the other day!

Yeah?

She sure is ugleeeeeeee!

Yeah, but she sure can cook!!!"
