While you're wringing your hands over people using profanity... |
|
...1200 U.S. soldiers have died in Iraq, anywhere from 40,000 - 100,000 Iraqis have also been killed, America's homeless population is estimated at more than two million, 43 million Americans have no health insurance, global warming continues to melt the polar ice cap, automobile exhaust continues to pollute the air and eat away at the ozone layer, domestic violence and child abuse continue to be a serious problem, a gallon of gas now sells for more than $2.00, five mega-conglomerates own about 90% of the broadcast and print media, and George W. Bush and his band of fascists are ready to put this country through four more years of hell.
Nice to see you profanity-haters have gotten your priorities straight!

11. Saying that profanity was the central issue of the other thread... |
|
is as crazy as this ad hominem thread is.
The irony of this thread is amusing, considering that NT is ripping others for not paying attention to "real news," yet he has devoted half the evening to the discussion.

Edit -- can't do it no text -- I started to, but it sounded like I meant what you posted was shit, and it ain't.
We got bigger fish to fry than whether folk put an asterisk in 'fuck' or not.

I guess it was the way I was raised. Though I can't help myself if I'm driving and almost get into an accident.

16. Profanity is very effective when used for emphasis and not overused |
|
It often gets your point across better than other words. It is an effective communication tool when used in the right context.

17. I remember a "Barney Miller" episode... |
|
where they had locked up some scholar who was assembling a book listing every profanity known to mankind. In a brief, sober moment at the end of the episode, the scholar explained that (paraphrasing) "if people could learn to fight with just words, even bad words, instead of with fists and guns and tanks, then the world could be a much safer, less threatening place."
Then I think Dietrich told him "get lost, you stupid creep", or words to that effect.
