Only a few hours until most stores open for the busiest shopping day of the year? Just think of all those 6am-11am sales.

Are you going to be one of those lucky people? :)

1. Boycott.
Nope, I'm unemployed and nobody is getting gifts this year. I am boycotting the holidays.

There are better sales just before Christmas. In fact, I may make my gifts this year.

5. I made the mistake last year
Edited on Fri Nov-26-04 04:25 AM by Scooter24
of going to Walmart the day after Thanksgiving (it was the closest open store) at 6am for some milk. I was appalled when I saw a pregnant woman get punched in the stomach over the last computer.

6. Nope, Not Gonna Do It!
By Michael I. Niman, AlterNet. Posted November 12, 2001.
Buy Nothing Day

Friday, November 29, is my third favorite holiday of the year, after Halloween and World Car Free Day. It's Buy Nothing Day, an annual revolt against consumer culture.

Buy nothing day falls every year on the day after Thanksgiving, the busiest shopping day of the year and the start of the annual Christmas shopping frenzy. The Buy Nothing Day TV ads tell us:

"...The average North American consumes five times more than a Mexican, ten times more than a Chinese person, and thirty times more than a person from India."

"We are the most voracious consumers in the world..."

"...a world which could die because of the way we North Americans live..."

"Give it a rest. November 29 is Buy Nothing Day."

Cheers!;)

8. Going to Fry's

but I only buy the free-after-rebate stuff.

Only the govt gets my money: taxes and postage.

Fry's was having a sale. So far in the past 30 minutes on TV, I have seen a Target, Walmart, Sears, JC Penny, Kohls, and Best Buy commercial for their special sale.

11. Fry's doesnt advertise on TV (or radio that I've heard)

have multipage colored ads in the newspapers though every Friday and single page ads except Tesday and Thursday (last day of sales cycles).

Black Friday is a big day there. Most all of the many registers open.

18. I'm not buying anything today...
and will only be buying gifts this year from progressive, Dem-supporting businesses. However, everyone on my list is getting at least one CD from one of the artists who participated in the Vote For Change concerts.

21. No, I spent today making gifts for my family.
I decided to make gifts for my mom, aunt & uncle, and my sisters family. Mom got homemade gift certificates for free computer repair. Last year she spent a few hundred cleaning up her mess. A&U get a card and a picture placed in a frame I made this afternoon. My sisters family gets a family statue I constructed with parts from a few old Macintoshes, some re-bar, lots of beer cans, old books, and spray-paint. It's not safe for the kids to be around. It has lots of sharp edges and is about three feet tall. But it took about twelve hours, and that is way cooler then getting some crap I bought from Target for Twenty Bucks. I hope.

And props to my neighbor who let me use his welder and plasma torch this afternoon.

23. actually yes
I'll buy me a nice new monitor later today. As for x-mas shopping, I already have most presents.

Of course, due to the absence of thanksgiving, the day is by no means an especially busy shopping day over here :hi: .
