I'm crabby. It must be the holidays. |
|
Christmas is just a few weeks away. Hoo-fucking-ray.
If this is how I feel about the holidays NOW, I shudder to imagine what I'll be like as the years go by.

I hate the holidays as well, but I think it has more to do with this whole winter thing....
By the time one season rolls around, i'm ready for the next one. Winter? I'm ready for spring. Summer? I'm ready for fall. Anyone else like me?

4. Mine has to do with the "you have to go out and BUY" crap. |
|
People are going into debt because of Christmas. That's just plain idiotic. Christmas is nothing more than crass commercialism being shoved down our throats.

Over the past decade or so, my family has had several deaths during December, so Yule hasn't had that "holiday feeling" for me for a long time.
Let's sit together and make fun of other people's holiday wear :-)

3. I have come to the conclusion that I hate the fucking holidays. |
|
Over the years, I have tried very hard not to hate them. There are certain things about them that I do really like, like the lights on the houses and the music. But the fact is, at my core I loathe them and dread them every year.

5. My core feels the same way. |
|
Seems like a requirement in my family to send gifts. We've always done it, so we have to keep on doin' it. I guess someone needs to shatter that template.

6. I've told my family I don't want to receive gifts. |
|
But they won't go along with it. I'm the only crabby one during Christmas. And I don't want to be a selfish bastard, so I then buy them gifts.
And on and on and on.

Here is the email I sent three weeks ago:
Dear Friends and Family,
Well, the Christmas season is almost upon us, and in light of the recent election and everything else going on in our country, I've decided that I really have no interest in propping up big business with my hard-earned dollars. I also don't want you to be contributing to the coffers of global corporations that have no regard for our best interests in order to buy things for me.
Therefore, I hope you will honor my request to make this a gift-free Christmas between us. I have everything I need and I'm betting you do, too.
My gift for you this Christmas season is to offer you more time for the spirit of the season and less time in the shopping mall.
I would love to see you over the holiday season and hope we can offer each other the gift of time.
Love, Janesez
