That her family found her older brother dead under questionable circumstances (possible suicide). It was a very depressing situation to read about. Hope she's ok.

due to alcoholism, a slow-burn suicide.
Skittles has had much to deal with in recent times re: her dad's suicide, then just getting over the flu when her mom called about finding her brother dead.

Sometimes life sucks, and sometimes it really sucks...no test needed...it's a learn-as-you-go program.

Am sure whoever said that was trying to be kind...perhaps trying to help you be strong...but it unfortunately it comes off as sounding a bit insensitive. Finding the right words to say can be difficult...but I like your reply to "the test" statement.
If someone else says it, you can always say, "A Test? This is a test?!? Damn! I was up all night and forgot to study for it."

My daughter found me when I had hemorrhaged and passed out from blood loss. Her finding me saved my life, but she still has nightmares occasionally from it. It was 8 years ago.

I get sick at the thought of how she it would have effected her if I had died.
