I've become an Oriental Carpet Addict
In addition to the inexpensive Kashmiri rugs I bought to put in our living room, I bought a beautiful silk Qum (for our wall) with the tree of life design.

The colors absolutely shift depending on the direction. It is an absolute work of art.

The two piece I bought would have been $3000-5000 in the states.

I paid around $900 (here in the UAE). Sharjah (where I live) has to be the ultimate carpet destination... It's incredible.

5. I would be glad to....
Just tell me what you want...

They are fresh out of flying ones. However, I hear they may be getting a new shipment in soon. Halliburton apparently now has a DJINN sweatshop hard at work 'somewhere in Iraq.' IT's all hushhush of course. They may even use some of the technology in SDI.

2. You aren't kidding probably more
1 long 10-12 foot rug about 2 feet wide can run much more. My friends (who are not suffering financially) own several with price tags anywhere from 12k to a large area rug that was 50K.

6. Rugs also are appreciating 5-25% per year.
Depending on age, type and quality.

I am thinking of putting my savings completely into rugs!

Beats the bank and the stock market at the moment.

9. It's easy to get the "fever" over rugs -- I collect Navajo weavings...
The fact that human hands have run over every strand, every warp and woof of the piece, makes it vibrate with life -- someone put their best creative energies into the weaving, and it is therefore quite different than anything else in the house, and very much more "alive."

10. My dog loves my oriental carpet too!
I came home from work last tuesday, and she'd taken all the fringe off and chewed one one corner. I've had this rug since I was a college freshman!
