Poll question: Should I Buy "I Am Charlotte Simmons" By Tom Wolfe To Read? |
|
I read Bonfire Of The Vanities and thought it rocked...
I thought A Man In Full was so so...

3. No; I only buy books AFTER I've read them, and know I really want to |
|
read them again.
Bonfire is spectacular, but I hear Charlotte isn't any good.

4. Very uncool old man writing about a very young woman...run away, run away! |
|
When I saw Tom Wolfe on The Daily Show, that's when I knew I wouldn't be buying that book.
Oh no.
Is that to say that old men can't write about being young women? No. It is, however, to say that Tom Wolfe can't.
Most reviews I've read (okay, two) say about as much.

5. Got a bad review in NYT Book Review in October... |
|
Sort of like, okay, he's writing about a college, and there are all the school stereotypes there--nerd, jock, goody-two-shoes girl...the reviewer seemed to feel there was nothing new. Not a "big" book (big theme) like Bonfire of the V, or Man in Full.

Library. Greatest invention ever. I always check out a book before I spend money on it. Besides, there are too many books I'll only read once.
