Anybody catch Leno last night? |
|
I was watching Jay Leno and they had this women with all these animals come out on stage. They had all these Thanksgiving related animals like a turkey, a porcupine(Thanksgiving?) and something that looked like a wombat or something. Then the crowd started to go completely ape-shit. The camera hadn't panned down on what it was that the animal lady brought out. Turns out it was a Bald Eagle. Pretty cool, but I still couldn't figure out why the crowd was going so completely nuts. Then they panned the audience. All military personnel. They were losing it, they all stood up and started cheering. Yes, the Bald Eagle is a patriotic symbol but this was a little unsettling, I half expected the audience to start doing the "Seig Hiel!" Jay Leno is shameless, the whole display was completely transparent and staged and Jay is standing there with this surprised look on his face like he didn't know that was going to happen. The sheeple in the audience loved it, and I'm sure that the common herd at home loved it, too. Funny thing is, that bird means NOTHING to those people. They would sooner strike me down in the street as an environmentalist trying to save that bird, than give two dollars for the protection of it's habitat.

There's been a great list going around DU, listing all the positive things that liberals have done for the average american (food safety laws, minimum wage, etc.)
Maybe we should add "Saving Bald Eagle" to it.

2. That show was specifically for the armed services. |

It was Lenos Thanksgiving thing. I think he did it last year too. Lots of his jokes were military based humor, etc...
So it was no surprise to me there was a reaction to a bald eagle being brought out. Something I WAS surprised at was the lack of any explanation given for why the COULD bring out that eagle, as possessing one is, I beleive, a federal crime except for certain specific circumstances.
This one looked a bit rag-tag, and one wing was drooping. I think it must've had an injured wing and hence couldn't be returned to the wild. Would have been good to clear that up.
Ah well.
