1. Remember OUTRAGEOUS FORTUNE, her 1987 film comedy with Bette Midler?
I saw it theatrically back then, and recall it being a highly enjoyable film. Shame the two of them never worked together again.

3. I loved her role on "Diane" in the Cheers series ...
I was a young adult when "Cheers" became popular. I love the show because my husband and I fell in love in Boston and he proposed to me at an Irish Pub ... well sort of like the one in "Cheers."

I'm a sloppy sentiment fool but I think she played an excellent role all those years.

Clinical Depression cumulating in suicide is has occurred in my family AND to a close childhood friend. Therefore, I would even feel genuine empathy for someone as heartless as Rush Limbaugh.

I'm just "weird" that way. ;)

6. While she didn't have the sex appeal of Rebecca Howe or
Lilith Sternen (yes, for real!), there was one episode where she looked really hot; the one where Sam comes over to her place, thinking they're going to get it on, and he has to battle it out with her collection of stuffed animals. Mr. Jammers, Freddy Frogbottom and so on.

She was wearing this satiny pink teddy, and looked ravishing!

Hope she recovers well and gets some counselling.

Troop Beverly Hills. Boy, that one was a zinger! And didn't she do some cameo work on cheers after she left for her big movie career? Then there was "The Money Pit", the only Tom Hanks movie I can think of that was worse than "The 'Burbs".

Sounds more like she was depressed and took some pills.

That's drug happy?

11. "Painkillers"...according to her publicist.
Edited on Fri Nov-26-04 07:03 PM by indigobusiness
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- "Cheers" alum Shelley Long was back home after being briefly hospitalized because she took a dose of medication to treat back pain and the drug made her ill, her manager said Friday.

"Shelley took an extra pain pill for her back, which she hurt when she fell on the set of `Cheers' many years ago," Martin Mickelson told The Associated Press. "She had a reaction to it ... but she is now home and she is fine."

snip

Mickelson denied published reports Friday that suggested Long, 55, had apparently taken an overdose of painkillers brought on by the breakup of her 22-year marriage to stockbroker Bruce Tyson.

12. How do you go from wishing her dead, to "appreciating" her?
Edited on Fri Nov-26-04 07:07 PM by chiburb
In this LBN thread you said she should have died a long time ago. In fact, every reply in the thread was directed to you, not Ms. Long's illness.

I don't get it.

Glad you are now admitting that you did indeed say that you wished death upon Shelley Long in the first post on this topic. Glad you came to terms with your denial.

Unoriginality--yeah, I agree. Coming to the lounge to start another thread on the topic required much creative thinking.

I said she should've killed herself long ago. In an tongue-in-cheek, absurdist way. You and your ilk spun it like O'Reilly...even after I cleared up the facts.

I never "wished" anything.

You have the problem.

35. Brady Bunch
She was excellent in those movies. She and Gary Cole out-Bradied the originals.

I saw Shelley Long perform in a couple of Second City Chicago revues at the start of her career. She was very, very funny. I got tired of her Cheers character but she always played it well. I wish her the best.
