A amusing story, probably not true... |
|
The use of decoys in wartime dates back as far as thier are records of warfare. From lighting false campfires to marching the same set of 10 horses over the same patch of ground many times, decoys are a accepted 'ruse of war'. In World War 2, efforts to create false impressions of units that aren't there was very common, and added the idea of false units to fool airborne recon. In Holland, in the months before D-Day, the Germans decided that they needed to create false targets to protect real ones... hence a decoy airfield was built. The German "airfield," constructed with meticulous care, was made almost entirely of wood. There were wooden hangers, oil tanks, gun emplacements, trucks, and aircraft. The Germans took so long in building their wooden decoy that Allied photo experts had more than enough time to observe and report it.
The day finally came when the decoy was finished, down to the last wooden plank. And early the following morning a lone RAF plane crossed the Channel, came in low, circled the field once, and dropped a large wooden bomb.

What a unique way of informing the Germans that all the effort put into building their decoy airfield was for nothing!

The Nazi Army expected the invasion to happen in Holland, the Dutch coast is riddled with bunkers to this day. The allies were very active keeping up that belief, the Walcheren flooding is a sad example of that policy.

Thank you for sharing
Do you think that's what is happening right now? A long running rumor that keep resurfacing is about our first moon walk and the coke can rolling across the scene in the background.
The brainwashing is on the freeepers. When the time comes they will march in line with whatever the "Dick'tator" wants them to do.

Persians have baby faces..i love him like a kid.
I am using it as my Christmas Card this year. I am planning on putting a Gold Foil paper in the back ground and a green border around the picture along with a very tiny little red bow in the bottom corner.
