Carlin joke... funny or sexist?
Have you noticed that most of the women who are against abortion are women that you wouldn't want to fuck in the first place, man?

That line is 30 years old. I think it's from the Class Clown album.

10. he was brilliant in the very early days
Nowadays he's just a curmudgeon. And a boring one at that.

He jumped the shark with that Fox sitcom, after Married With Children one year.

17. total agreement
I hadn't seen him in years. Then caught him on some show and was absolutely appalled. He's really disintegrated creatively. Very sad.

19. One thing about comedy, though...
...is that much of it tends to be 'politically incorrect'. It may shock, it may offend. And it may be very controversial.

A lot of comedy is sometimes what we are thinking, but we don't dare say in public.

If comedy doesn't offend once in a while, the terrorists/neocons have won.

20. Comedy mirrors society, or something like that.
Edited on Sat Sep-20-03 08:13 AM by BiggJawn
I heard/read that line once. What it meant was that when things are easy, and times are good, comedy and humour tend to be sophomoric and lean towards slapstick. When you have times like now, and the "Nam era", things are grittier, more edgey and humour has a "gallows" quality to it. That line of Carlin's was from the tag end of Viet Nam. that was also the era of guys like Dick Gregory and Lenny Bruce.

But I digress. That line was funny then, and yes, it's sexist. When he first delivered it, Roe v. Wade was new and the battle lines wee still being drawn. the anti-choice forces hadn't organized into RICO-prohibited groups yet. Fact is, there was no RICO at that time...

21. I have more respect for self deprecating humor
if he wants to talk about being too ugly to get laid, perhaps he should look in the mirror.
Most of my humor is directed at myself. It is a purposeful choice for me.
