Bob Dylan. There are many more times I will go "I need to listen to some Dylan" than "I need to listen to some Beatles."
I don't really think they're very easily compared, though. But that's just one man's opinion.

Dylan was what the Beatles would become long before the Beatles even knew what they wanted to be...
Beatles are still great though. I know a lot of Beatles fans.

Maybe it is this uncontrollable urge I have ! I think Bob Dylan is great - no doubt. I also think John Lennon is.
This is not an easy question for me. I flunk !!!!

8. It really depends on my mood and mindset . . . |
|
if we're talking early Beatles, it's no contest, I'll take Dylan every time. If we're talking later Beatles, the question becomes a bit tougher :).
Overall I'd have to go with Dylan, but like I say that could change wiht my mood and mindeset at any given time :).

17. Ladies and Gentlemen: THE BEATLES! |
|
Dylan was a better songwriter for a period, when he actually was down and out. He lost his muse after a while.
The Beatles became better songwriters after their success. George, John, and Paul also were above average musicians. As a guitar player, I don't think Dylan is anywhere near their level.
Plus, the Beatles came with that sound! The electric guitars out front. The harmonies. The great bass playing. John and Paul had better voices than Dylan.
Not close: THE BEATLES!

Dylan was winning, now this?
I concede that the Beatles were more musical talented from a perspective, but no matter how many phases he went through, (except maybe some of that weird Jesus stuff he did in the early eighties), Dylan keep bringing forth good stuff, and he was just one man!
What about "Blood on the Tracks" and "Desire" (a personal favorite). Anyone consider "Street Legal" or "Infidels" before voting for the Beatles?
And he's still going.
I'm sticking with Bob.

Looks like I have at least one ally here.
Going to go out side, smoke a butt, and listen to a little "Blonde on Blonde". That should calm me down.

I enjoyed the Beatles too but I felt they were very uneven compared to Dylan. Seems funny now. They are both pretty uneven, aren't they? But Dylan is just my favorite. They both did good work and I will always enjoy them.

and when it comes to sheer lyrical artistry and brilliance Dylan has few equals.
And, just for the fuck of it, my favourite songs by both..
Dylan: Ballad of a Thin Man, Tom Thumb's Blues, Brownsville Girl )can't narrow it any further. Deal.)
Beatles: A Day In The Life (or, at least, the half written by Lennon), While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

31. Dylan wore a cool hat on the cover of "Desire." |

Unfortunately, that was probably his worst pre-born-again album. That said, the Beatles never wore cool hats.

Is a sentimental favorite for me...the consistent fiddle swinging. Back round vocals by Emmie Lou Harris, even liner notes by Allen Ginsburg!
Maybe not Dylan's best effort, I agree he had better albums, but it was experimental to say the least...
"The Hurricane", "Sara", "One More Cup of Coffee for the Road."
Lovely stuff in my mind...
BTW, I agree...the hat was cool.

The Beatles are still winning?
I love the Beatle but, you guys need to expand your record collection.
Dylan recorded far more stuff...just get yourself a copy of the "Bootleg Series" and see what Dylan can do...
The ballad Version of "Idiot Wind" is still a personal favorite...
