Good liberal towns in Colorado?

We're considering selling our house in LA and moving someplace a little cheaper for awhile. Looking at Portland, Seattle and Kalispell area. My husband also wants to consider Colorado.

Is Boulder a liberal city? Does anyone have any recommendations?

1. Yes Boulder is

a liberal city as are many college towns. Try a small town if you love unspoiled nature. (The Colorado Rockies are awe inspiring) My vote is for Green Mountain Falls just northwest of Colorado Springs.

2. Boulder is not like it used to be.

It's not real bad but it's not near as liberal as it once was. Denver is quite liberal as is Aspen, Telluride. Stay away from Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, and Greeley.

4. I live south of Kalispell

and it's not liberal by any means. Read about the state senator elected there from the Constitutional party. The Constitutionals are much further right than republicans. Kalispell is cheap by LA standards but way off by Montana's. Missoula county is demo and cheaper, but make sure you check out Montana wages beforehand, second lowest in the nation behind Mississippi.

Boulder is nice but very expensive. The towns east of Grand Junction, CO are beautiful and full of alternative lifestyle liberals.

5. Both of our families are in MT - all over the state

so we're familiar with the different areas. I'm not thrilled about the idea of moving to a red state, nor am I very excited about living in snow again. But it's inevitable because my husband has put up w/ California for 8 years now and he really misses the snow and the cold and the four seasons.

I know Missoula is the best liberal place to be in MT, but neither one of us really like it very much. We really like Whitefish, Big Fork and Lakeside (not really Kalispell per se) - we would really enjoy being close to Glacier. But that whole area seems to be very overvalued - even by CA standards!

As far as MT politics, yeah, unfortunately I know. My bro ran for state assembly (in Bozeman) and he's pretty libertarian ("govt out of my life" mantra) and my parents are also right-wing fundies. They're in Bozeman too....thus, this is the reason we will never land in Bozeman!

As far as wages, we are both self-employed so we can pretty much go anywhere.

7. Montana's not all bad

We just elected a very progressive demo governor, the state legislature is about 50/50, there is one demo US senator even though he's a waste of oxygen. Legalized medical pot and voted down cyanide leach mining this Nov. Heck Montana even went Clinton for his second term.
Great thing about Montana is that many people are anti government period and don't have much good to say about either party. Second highest state in the nation for Nader votes in 2000 after Conn.
Most folks don't talk politics, would rather talk about hunting and fishing. West of the Rockies the weather isn't all that bad.

10. what is the geography of the towns east of Grand Junction

do they have mild weather or lots of snow - or is all the snow on the other side of the mountain

12. Grand Junction

is at the lowest elevation in Colorado, where the Colorado River exits the state. The winters there can get snow but rarely over a foot accumulates at once. Winter cold is broken by warm days about half the time. It a major tree fruit growing area, the climate has to be somewhat moderate.

Everyone that lives in Boulder is a transplanted Californian.

Denver is much more liberal.

8. ACTUALLY, I wish you'd move in to a less liberal town to reclaim for us!

Fort Collins is a college town, for God's sake. It SHOULD be semi-liberal, but for all the SOCAL and Texas REPUG migration into the area. Go retake it, and maybe I'll move back too!

Denver though is reliably lib, as long as you stay out of the southern suburbs heading down towards the Springs....

Boulder is a little strange. You might want to spend some time there before deciding to move there.

Denver is very progressive/liberal friendly.

11. Salida and Buena Vista are great areas

about 2 hrs sw of denver
