it's a waste of copper, time, and arithmetic...let's just round every price on anything off to the nearest nickel.. whadda y'all think?
(yes, i know there ought to be 'penny candy', but they can make them
a little bigger and charge 5c?)

7. I am all for the Reagan penny too.
No I'm not. :+

Maybe if I had to choose between the Reagan penny and Reagan dime, I'd pick that though.

4. But, but, but, then we couldn't...
...umm...give me bit, I'll think of something useful you can do with pennies...umm...hmm...

<one week later>

...OK, I admit it, pennies are essentially useless. If I might make a suggestion, always round gas prices DOWN to the nearest nickel.

5. I agree
I have a big jug full of pennies. I drop them in there all the time. When it's full, i bring them to those CoinStar machines. I'd prefer not to do it.

9. So they'll round all prices up to 5 cent increments and all sales taxes
to 5 cent increments.

Think about it. Perfect license to raise prices.

13. Yes! I have advocated the end of the penny for years
Edited on Sun Nov-28-04 09:06 PM by Zuni
If I were a politician that would be one of my issues.
Why can't we round cents to the closest multiple of 5?
I have so many pennies littering my dresser. They are a royal pain in the ass

16. yes
they are more hassle than they are worth. I always leave my pennies in the "need a penny" jar at retail stores. I do take them when I need them too, so maybe I think we should keep them. hmmm.. I guess I dont really care either way.

1. Do you think if prices were rounded, it would benefit the consumer or the retailers?

2. Pennies are overwhelmingly used by the poor and by the young to get the most accurate pricing. If we did away with them, the little guys would be screwed a few percent on multiple small purchases.

20. My suggestion: One year off, one year on
And THIS time, use actual copper to make the pennies. The money saved from minting pennies every other year should help greatly.

than paying your bills in pennies.
