DU Sure Works Faster On a New Computer!!!!
The Princess and I finally got tired of trying to keep our old computers going. We had a 200-MHz Packard Bell and an 800-MHz H-P, and they were so full of viruses, worms, and adware that I was constantly working on them.

In today's paper, there was a Circuit City flier, and they had a 2.6-GHz e-Machines PC with a Lexmark photo printer and a 17-inch flat-screen monitor. All for $369, after all the mail-in rebates. So we drove in to town in a snowstorm and bought it.

It's great having a PC that works!!!!!!!

3. I'm having troubles with my router connection
ever since my family member came home and connected his laptop to the router. My dinosaur desktop (which is the main computer for the network for my wireless laptop) is so infested that I can't use it. I need to use it, though, to see if I can reconfigure my wireless router connections!! ARGH! So I've been looking for a cheap desktop to be my main computer for my network. ....so you say Circuit City has a deal like that? I've been searching all over the net for a good deal but I don't know what to look for. I want something just for internet like now, CD burner, DVDs, and for the network. Would the one you bought be alright for all that? That is the price I'm looking for!!! We don't have a Costco, either. I also don't need a printer. HELP!!!!

Hopefully, I can stay connected long enough to find an answer!!! The wireless connection keeps disconnecting and then I have to physically disconnect everything to reset it. Sometimes, it happens everytime I try to go to another page! These past 2 days are KILLING me!

5. I just found one for $399 after rebates and its an emachine.
Would that be close to what you bought? I see it doesn't have a printer of which I don't need anyway. It has 80GB harddrive,512 MB RAM, AMD Athlon XP 2800+. Does anybody know if I could use my router and have a network from this? I don't know how good this is or not.

9. It's Similar
I have a 60GB drive, 256M of RAM, and a 2.6-GHz Intel CPU. Which is three times faster than my H-P, with twice the disk space and more than three times the RAM.

I'm gonna look into setting up a network, too.

6. I am hating this snow right now.
We're buried and I'm stuck at home because my car does crappy in the snow. You'd think being a Coloradoan I would have learned by now not to own a sports car....is it possible I'm not as smart as I think I am?

It's a little past 5:00 a.m. right now, and I have the TV on to see if I'm on a 2-hour delay or not. Right now, it looks like I'm not.

7. Make sure you keep an eye out for the rebate
Make copies of your receipts and all of the stuff that you have to send in for your rebate and keep track of it. I had an E Machine when they first came out and it lasted a few years. :bounce:

10. They Gave Me All The Rebate Certificates At The Register
Circuit City has a web site where you can apply for the rebates online, and track them. So you register the rebates, and then mail in the proofs of purchase. As soona s they receive those, you get the checks.

11. Piping in with some geeky advice and congrats on you new PC.
Edited on Mon Nov-29-04 09:11 AM by Cerridwen
AVG - anti-virus, free for personal use
ZoneAlarm - firewall software, free for personal use
AdAware - spyware blocker/cleaner, free for personal use
And of course, Firefox browser - AdBlock extension and popup blocker.
Thunderbird email client - not attacked as often as Outlook.

To avoid future excessive PC work.

I apologize if you already know all of this. Just couldn't resist putting in my .02.

:hi:

12. Appreciate It
I've already loaded Norton Anti-Virus onto it. We're using AOL 9.0, which includes McAfee. I'll be adding Ad-Aware, Popup Blocker, and Spyblocker (?) tonight when I get home.
