Caltech did various similar things back in the early 60's.

My personal favorite for harvard game hacks is the one propagated by MIT. They arranged for a decorated weather balloon to inflate itself in the middle of the field during the game.

The papers reported it as MIT 1 harvard-yale 0.

5. Harvard-Yale game MIT pranks

There are several great ones:

The weather balloon rising from the middle of the field in 1982 and the rocket powered banner that rose from the turf and draped itself over the goalposts as a field goal was about to be kicked.
