So if you have a .bin and a .cue...
What's the cue for?? Is it just outdated or something, cause I've always seemed to be able to mount/burn the .bin just fine without it.

2. The .cue file
is a track listing for the .bin iso. There are some multi-track .bin isos that simply will not burn properly without their associated .cue files.
