Did anyone see Alexander this weekend? Did you ask for your money back?
Me and Mr. Angry Lizard went yesterday. And walked out after 45 minutes. Terrible, God awful movie. Starting with Anthony Hopkins giving 5 minutes of exposition before we even see anyone related to Alexander, to a piss poor script (does everyone really have to keep calling it "the known world",when really, to the people trying to conquer it, it's just, uh, "the world"? And, uh,hey, why the hell at any point in this movie can I not figure out what's going on?) As for the bisexual subtext? Lots of mostly naked, oiled up men and boys (wrestling, for God's sakes), lots of comments about how Alexander loved Achilles best because he avenged "the man he loved", and my favorite, his mother telling him that he needs to produce an heir, "You're 19 years old and the girls are saying that you don't like them!" But no kissing. No actual, hey, I like the homies. Stone totally punked out on that one, so what was the point? And who the hell wrote the script? The dialogue was god awful. The pacing was god awful. I thought it was going to be somewhat campy even if it was bad, but it was just BAD.

AND WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE STOP TRYING TO MAKE COLIN FARREL INTO A MOVIE STAR?? Don't get me wrong, he's extremely attractive, but far more compelling off-screen than on. I am so tired of seeing bad Colin Farrell movies. This is definitely the last one.

And, yes, I did get my money back.

1. I saw it, and it was bad
The only reason I didn't walk out was because of the principle that I've never walked out on a movie, no matter how horrible it is.

2. I'm not even going to bother
Hollywoods interpretation of History is always wrong. So lets get the masses miseducated!

Gah.. if you're interested in Alexander then pick up a history book on his life. Not as flashy or hyped up but at least it is accurate.

3. I actually read a couple of books about Alexander
when I was a kid. All far better than that piece of shit movie.

4. "Alexander" Not So Great... (headline from local paper)
I preview movies -- about 200 a year -- for a local audio broadcasting outlet. I can go to see the ones I want and forget the rest.

The "buzz" for "Alexander" was so horrendous that I decided to pass the invitation. "Troy" was bad enough. I totally agree with you about Colin Farrell, as the last thing that he did (that I even remember) was "Phonebooth" which really stretched the imagination too much.

However, we did see "Sideways" this weekend and I recommend it highly. I don't know how old you are but if you're middle-aged or older, I believe you'll enjoy it.

5. I haven't been to the movies for years, except for F9/11.
I buy foreign movies during my travels, and I especially I love Brazilian movies.

6. Thank you!
I won't waste any money now. I thought it looked absolutely terrible from the commercials. Now we know for sure.
