Help with Firefox / Mozilla |
|
Edited on Mon Nov-29-04 08:21 AM by fleabert
how come when I get the download window, it shows a different source for the download?
ie: www.ftp.solace.mh.se www.pryan.org www.ftp.heanet.ie www.mirrorsource.org
and a different one each time I hit cancel and then the download link again? (ps-the only link I get to work is the pryan.org site, seems like a remote host? what does that mean?)
I got vicious spyware and a hijacker virus on my previous computer, which was 'fixed' twice and had to be put to sleep finally. It's untimely death necessitated purchasing the new computer I use today and I don't want to kill it too (although I am convinced my DH was responsible for everything!) I am very suspicious of downloads, please help.
Lots have talked up Mozilla enough for me to click on the download link, but then I got freaked...

|
I can't get anything done on it.
What virus do you have on your computer and is your computer running real slow?

I don't have anything on this computer, I bought a new one that is very clean. My old one was slow because of adware and spyware, there are a bunch of ways to check and clean your computer for those. I don't recommend any since I got spyware FROM a "spyware killer". Just be careful is all I know.
I was hoping that Mozilla might be what I am looking for since I hate IE so much. I wanted a Mac, but the DH went out and got a HP on impulse. Oh well, next time I have a few thousand extra dollars, I will get the one I want.

12. Yikes. Maybe you should post a new thread asking for help... |
|
I think this is way out of my league, I am just a user not a fixer. my knowledge comes from emergencies only, not very beneficial for others or new situations.
you should not be having such issues with a new comp imo. do you have antivirus and a firewall?

Dell replaced my other computer with a refurbished one. My other computer worked better then this one before the fan went out and the hard drive burnt up and it was only 5 or 6 months old.
I will never purchase a Dell again in my life.
Do you like Mozilla?

Note: spyware and viruses are two different things. If you have basic anti-virus software (like McAfee or Norton) and watch what you download, you're not going to have problems.
Don't download software from a third party when you can get it directly from the source. Go to Mozilla.org, get it there.

there is a different source each time I click on the 'download' link in the green box.
I know there was spyware on my old comp. because I found it in the system files and the comp was slow as hell, and I think I had a hijacker virus since I could not keep a homepage to save my life. I had the hard drive erased and reinstalled professionally twice and it didn't solve my probs.
I think I need to update my Norton before I get Mozilla, or any other download for that matter. I don't even know if I trust Norton to catch everything these days.
thanks

Mozilla uses different download mirror sites so not to overload its servers. Just make sure you have up to date antivirus and a firewall on your computer and you will eliminate most problems. I do this for a living and while occasioally someone sent me a virus, I've never been infected by one and I'm online constantly.

8. You can also go to download.com and |
|
type "Firefox" in the search box. They shouldn't have too many dead links there, cosidering how much passes through that site.
