6. It's true, But it's complicated
Even if you shop at Dem donor Costco, you may buy products from companies that contribute to Republicans.

I don't think absolutism is a realistic or useful approach.

Better to set some guidelines for yourself and hope for the best.

12. Tough question - where does the money go?
While Target indeed contributes to national and local republicans, the majority of Target stores are union shops, with employees belonging to UFCW and IWW.

Both UFCW and IWW are Democrat contributors. Their members traditionally vote Democrat, don't know about the last election, but in the past these unions went very Blue. While a portion of money spent at Target obviously goes into the company coffers and winds up in the hands of republicans, a portion also goes to the employees and the unions, which helps out Democrats both in the pocketbooks and at the polls.

Is it really a good idea to withdraw all support for one of the largest union retail stores in the country. I certainly support your goals of reducing spending where money goes to GOP coffers, but withdrawing support form union shops may be harming Dems more, or equally as much.

I always look at the employees for union memberships before I pull support for a store. Unions are the backbone of the Democratic party. Withdrawing support from stores which employee union workers will likely hurt the party in the long run.

20. I felt the same way about Target
In fact, I just learned about Target's GOP donations from the Follow Your Money website. I was quite surprised.

Yet another reason for me to spend my money at CostCo.

2. I Stopped Buying From Them A Couple Of Years Ago...
and it was very difficult choice to make. I do love their collectable ornaments, but their card prices just kept going through the roof!! Now it's home-made cards or American Greetings or Gibson cards.

9. In fairness, it says on the site that donations may be from individuals
associated (employed, etc.) with the company. It still gives you an idea about what kind of people you're supporting, but it may not be the company's leanings in all cases.

:hi:

How could you have any doubt they gave to the Talk-Is-Cheap-But-We-don't-Actually-Believe-That-Crap-GOP ? ;)

11. I'm relieved that I don't use their cards...
...I buy cards from the gift shop at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and write my own message inside if a few words are necessary. I go in person, but I think people can order them online from anywhere in the world. A little expensive, but much nicer covers and who needs trite, pre-printed drivel inside?

18. Hallmark has licensed ornaments from Precious Moments &
Thomas Kinkade.

How much more proof do you need of their evil?

(Of course, I've got a pretty good collection of LOTR mini-helmets--but that's different & more intellectual, isn't it? Isn't it?)

22. how many "holidays" have they invented?
because of them, we're supposed to be buying cards and presents just about every week for someone....instead of actually showing appreciation, love, or otherwise acknowledging people....

...its mindless....
