"Smitten" is such a pansy word. Can I be "smut" instead?

I mean, when the bible god smites people, they're never "smitten." They're burned in the fiery pits of hell, or turned into salt or something. They get "smote," I think, is the term used. Not "smitten." Haven't done much bible reading, so I'm not entirely sure on that, but I don't recall anyone having been smitten to death by god. Stupid English language.
