8. I whole heartedly agree
but he said it in such a matter of fact way that it just made me want to scream

I am shocked at how the roles of parent and child have become reversed in society

everything.. Jeeze they are scaring me because it's gimme gimme gimme and I just lost my job! Lost it partially, because evertbody is spending much less on clothes, and much more on electronics. It's been where the $$ is for three years now! Everybody want the i pod and x box. They think it's their birthright.
Makes me glad I'm not a breeder!

i say we bring all the kids to CNN and let them play with the electronics there, they could write news copy and wear too much make up and have bad hair- become talking heads, get paid too much then buy thier parents some electronics
YOU are not a fuddy duddy! CNN sucks and Fux is probably telling parents to buy thier kids security systems.

18. As the parent of a demanding (in many ways) child...
My son wanted a Nintendo 64 for his birthday (which is Dec. 21) a few years ago...the grandparents obliged. Guess what? I don't buy games! He has to save his own money, which he earns by getting good grades (honor roller!) and household chores. He has no set allowance, he gets paid based on the chores he does and the attitude with which he does them. Bad attitude only brings in half of the regaular amount. Don't do them? Fine, don't get paid. Don't come crying to me when you want a new game. By the way, having to pay for the games himself inspires him to buy used games...much cheaper! He now has a Gamecube to go with his 64, and I've yet to buy a game. He puts games on his list, but I put my foot down, nope, sorry. He recently used his own money to buy a two gallon aquarium for his goldfish ($20 plus tax). Responsible little booger!

23. I got 4 words for you
GET A FREAKIN JOB!

Kids get waaaaaaaaaaaay too much handed to them these days. I had nothing till I earned it. I bought my first stereo - phone - TV and I didn't have a computer till I was 25.

It's just rediculous how much kids get for nothing.

24. I Remember One Year...
...when my parents put two requirements on me and my sisters when we were making out our wish lists:

1 - Nothing that ran on batteries.

2 - Nothing that was advertised on TV.

We got a lot of clothing and educational stuff that year.

26. I asked my son what he wants
I said "hey, what do you want?" and he told me. it is electronic stuff too, but he would never demand them from me.

I wouldn't reward the little buggers demands.

28. man, what's with all the crankiness?
Obviously, demanding a toy or specific gift is quite rude and will not be granted. But, graciously asking for a electronic toy like an iPod or video game system is quite fine; when I was a kid I wrote a paper (yes a paper) listing the reasons why Santa should consider bringing me a super Nintendo system ;)
But somehow, methinks telling a kid to "get a job" to pay for said desired electronic gift is a bit, ah, Grinch like.
