*Snort* George Plans NFL Return by Joining Bears
CHICAGO Nov 28, 2004 — Jeff George plans to return to the NFL with the Chicago Bears, who hope the 36-year-old quarterback can strengthen an offense that lost Rex Grossman to a season-ending knee injury two months ago.

George hasn't played since the 2001 season when he was cut after two games with the Washington Redskins. He intends to sign with the Bears on Monday, a team source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told The Associated Press on Saturday night.

George is expected to sign a one-year deal. He told the Chicago Tribune he will be happy with whatever role he plays on the team and already has been studying its playbook.

1. I guess it beats
Sending 10 guys out there on offense. Which is what they have been doing all season.

4. Haven't the Bears suffered enough?
I was never impressed with George...so to bring him 3 years out of retirement doesn't thrill me.

So far, Lovie Smith's not impressing me. How the heck do you have only Jonathan Quinn and rookies backing up your starter?

Quinn was bad Thursday. I don't get to see a lot of games (usually busy Sundays) but he was just TERRIBLE.

I don't know that George is any kind of answer, though.

5. I remember when he was with the Indianapolis Colts
We used to run a pool to see how many minutes he would last before getting sacked into a concussion :D

Nickname for Chris Chandler -what is it 12 concussions he has had now?

BTW- Chandler (still in the league?) is/was the last scab player still playing.

13. Hey, they could use me, too!
I'm cheap, I'll take minimum NFL wage...

Of course, I'm too short to see over any linemen, but...I couldn't be much worse than Quinn

21. yep
I don't understand how Quinn could actually be playing in the NFL. He can't pass...he can't run....he can't read defenses....just terrible. And this is who the Bears brought in as their #1 back up QB.

12. Yesterday,
Chris Collingsworth said to Troy Aikman...."If they'd hire Jeff George, why wouldn't they hire you?"

The Bears are an embarrassment. They went into this season with no real back up QB (probably so the McCaskeys could save money) and now they are forced to bring in *ugh* Jeff George.

Unfortunately, it just seems to be the way sports teams are run here. The owners all care far more about the bottom line than they do about winning, and Chicago fans are too loyal to stay away.

25. Oh, yeah Bearfan 454, it'll be a long, long time before we ever see
the likes of Walter Payton again. Not only was he a class football player, he was a class human being as well.

As for the McCaskey's, it's genetic. Remember George S. Halas was their grandfather and as Dummy Ditka said about him "he threw nickels around like they were sewer covers".

actually, money is what this is all about. The McCaskey's won't part with any more than they have to.

EDIT: Last Thursday, Peyton Manning threw for 6 touchdowns.

The Bears QBs have thrown 5 all season.

27. wasn't he supposed to be the most talented QB ever at one point?
I remember the NFL Draft shows on ESPN the year he was drafted and Mel Kiper Jr. just gushed over Jeff George. Said he had the best arm of any qb he'd ever seen.

What happened, was he just a dick who nobody on his team liked so his O-line let him get sacked all the time?
