Techie Question: Why am I getting this gibberish from MSNBC Web site
Edited on Mon Nov-29-04 02:11 PM by KoKo01
It's the second time today I've gotten this gibberish trying to read Olberman's Blog and another article from MSNBC website.

I use Netscape and I've hit reload and gone off the site and logged back on it and I still get this stuff about 3/4's of the way down his blog.

What is it? And, how do I fix it?

1. looks like netscape is incorrectly interpreting some binary file as...
Edited on Mon Nov-29-04 02:34 PM by tandem5
a readable text file.

It's probably not a netscape problem per se... *MS* NBC formatted their page to work with internet explorer.

2. Looks to me like
the encoding is set to something other than automatic. I do not use Netscape but in Opera you can set the coding. Check to see if you can set it to something other than automatic. Try looking under the "view" options. Or access the help feature to see how to set the encoding. If automatic is not a choice it should be Unicode UTF-8.

3. I went to veiw and "auto-detect" was "off" so I clicked it (I guess that
will turn it on?) This is the first time it's happened with MSNBC and I haven't fooled with my character settings. Anyway, I'll see if that works...thanks! If it doesn't I'll come back here and try something else.

5. It worked. weird...since I don't know how I've functioned with the
setting off for so long without a problem. Thanks..

MSNBC is always a little difficult for my Netscape only in that things are slower to download there, but I'm on Dial Up so much is slow. Microsoft sites tend to down load the most slowly or have little glitches if I want to use "print format." But, I've not had this problem before.
