Not having the internet for 5 days |
|
I just got back from a 5 day vacation where I didn't have access to the internet and barely watched TV. It was so nice. I didn't find myself stressed or worried or anything. I didn't find myself enraged at some idiot's opionion, or worry about some rant that only exists on the internet. It made me feel like an adult again. I realized during this past week that so much of the internet is infantile and it ends up making me feel infantile. The ridiculous debates, every joe schmoe thinking because they have a blog that they are the second coming of Edward R. Murrow. No reminders of how sad a state of affairs we are in.
Not that being blissfully unaware is a good thing as far as the long term goes, but I realized how nice it was to just forget about things for a while and enjoy being with my family and spending time relaxing and actually doing things rather than sitting in front of a screen and a keyboard.
It worries me because for whatever reason i can't seem to find that balance. I don't want to be blissfully unaware because I'm too conscious a person to be able to do that. But I also don't want to be a slave to the overload of information and opions. I would like the ability to shut it off once in a while, which I only seem to be able to do when I just have absolutely no other choice.
Anyone else experience anything like this.

1. My TV broke down 6 months ago |
|
And I thought that it would be nice to stop watching TV and this was finally an opportunity. It's still broken and somehow it feels better to keep it broken. Sadly I've been a lot more on the internet lately especially after the "election" which means that I'm still in front of a different TV. But it is nice to know that I hardly see an advert anymore because of no TV and ad-killers, pop-up-killers, hosts blockage etc. and that does make quite a difference :D
