Bumper Stickers I Hate

I don't know why I let things like stupid bumper stickers bother me so much, but they bother me a lot.

Today's selection:

"Be True To America
Support Our Troops
And Our President!"

People who sport bumper stickers like this simply do not get it. Being critical of the war and of the president is NOT Un-American. Demanding blind loyalty and "support" of the president is what's Un-American. Why don't they get that??

For example, *I* don't believe the Bible "condemns homosexuality." It's very tough for a person like me to have patience with anyone who believes in a literal, inerrant view of the Bible.

I really hate that damn round W'04 sticker. I've started carrying a jumbo black magic marker and when no ones lookin' I quickly scrawl a t and an f behind the W with a question mark.

After 9-11, "Proud to be an American" stickers appeared on many many bumpers in my neighbrhood.

I prepared stickers of my own with the single word, "GAY".
Because of the spacing of the letters, it was easy to turn ,"Proud to be an American", into "Proud to be a GAY American".

5. I have a question about a bumper sticker I saw a couple weeks ago,

well the person had two, one was the yellow ribbon that says 'support out troops' which is fine, but there was another one, it looked like the yellow one, only it was red white and blue with stars and it said, 'freedom isn't free' WTF does that mean? Does it mean that in order to be free people must die? Or troops must die? :wtf:

In the fine print, you will see that it is made and distributed by The Promise Keepers... a FundieGelical group of men who are working hard to revert to patriarchial rule in every sense of the word...


Those stickers would be more appropriate to that group if they said "I OWN my Wife"

A picture of a wood screw. you stick it on the heart, so that it changes the meaning to "I (love) (to screw) my wife"...

Works on other "I *heart*..." stickers...Like ones with pets on them, or "my kids"....

17. Saw one this weekend ....

I went to church w/ my parents (always makes them happy when I'm home). In the parking lot, I saw a bumper sticker that said, "Another Democrat for Bush." I wanted to walk inside and yell, "Who the fuck is driving the red Subaru - and are you out of your fucking mind??" Wouldn't have been appropriate, I guess ... :shrug: I did, however, proudly park my car front & center -- with this in the back glass:

And, you know what? It pisses off the asshats with the yellow ribbons to the same degree (I imagine) as would a sticker that said "Fuck the Troops".

Imagine that. Why is the idea of PEACE so offensive? Isn't saving the lives of the soldiers who have not heretofore been killed the ultimate support for the troops?


BTW: I found a yellow ribbon on line that has a peace sign in the top curve of the ribbon and the message "Support the troops: Bring them home NOW!" but I figured only about one out of a hundred people who saw it would actually read the writing or notice the peace sign. The other 99 would see just another "Support Our Troops" ribbon.

I have no desire to be associated with the yellow-ribbon crowd.
