Question For Those Who Really Know Their Hockey |
|
Since the season is washed out, and the players locked-out, what happens to all the NHL-draft eligable kids who were waiting to get selected by teams at the end of the year?
The college kids and the Europeans and the minor league kids. What do they do now?
Do they just go back to playing, does the NHL have some sort of special draft for these guys?
What would happen if the NBA or NFL were to have a lockout, what happens with the drafts in those instances?
Anyone know?

that no draft will occur without a CBA. There's no concrete plan in place, but as of right now, it looks like there will simply have to be two nearly back to back drafts. The Europeans will stay in Europe til then, one would presume, and the college kids can sign contracts with minor league teams or go to europe to stay fresh until an agreement can be reached.

how would they do that?
How would they arrange the order of the draft that was supposed to take place this year?

3. That has not been determined yet |
|
One theory that's floating around is that the playoff teams would keep their order, and that the non-playoff teams would have a weighted lottery (kind of like the NBA lottery) to determine their order. This is really key, since Sidney Crosby, considered by most to be the most talented prospect since Gretzky, is scheduled to be available.

4. aww man, another Gretsky? |
|
man I wish the Islanders could get him. There should just be a whole huge lottery with all the teams and an equal chance.
30 ping pong balls and everyone gets a shot at the No. 1 pick. :D

they drafted Ovechkin first overall this past draft--supposed to be on the level of Kovalchuk except a lot more physical and better forechecker.

9. Which they probably wouldn't |
|
since they already use a sort-of-lottery to juggle the top couple teams around. Washington obviously lucked out this past year...

they deserve, or at least the fans do (the owners are shit) to have a great player to watch.

though they actually have a bunch of quite good prospects.
For instance, they have two of the top D-man prospects in the whole NHL--Cam Barker, who I'd say is in the top 10 prospects in the whole NHL, along with Anton Babchuk, who's definitely in at least the top 25.
