Has anyone here ever taken the GRE math subject test?
Any tips? I look at the practice book and I think that I'm going to die! Regular GRE test, seems like no big deal, but this math subject test seems to be 45% material that I've never seen 45% material that I learned so long ago that I forgot, and 10% stuff that I know, but is still just plain tough. Feedback is appreciated.

1. Gotta go study, I'll be back later.
Remember this is the MATH SUBJECT TEST, not the Original Recipe GRE.

2. i aced it.
i thought it was actually easier than the sat math test. i also loved the analytics test.

but, seeing as i'm now director of analytics for a new york financial firm, i suppose that would come as no surprise.

which parts are unfamiliar? i took the test when you were probably still in diapers, so i'm sure some things have changed. calculus hadn't been invented yet, for instance.

just kidding about the calculus bit.

if you study the same way you studied for the sat math test 4 years ago, you'll probably get comparable results.

if you want to pay for help, i hear kaplan is actually quite good despite their overadvertising.

3. I agree - much easier than SAT
I also took the test at the beginning of time (and have had a job similiae to unblock's).

I recall it as a test the checked for a few buzzword definitions from each area of math plus the ability to apply a handfull of equations from each area - once you read the problem and remember the type of math they are checking on, it should fall into place. It was very simple calculations and the problems were not complex or require a great of either physics or Stat or linear algrebra or any given area - similiar in difficulty to the Professional engineer exams the states were giving at the time. The main problem is likely to be that there are some areas of math you have not hit yet and those questions may hit you with unkown to you buzzwords - so you will have to skip them.
