Anyone see "Moving Out" on Broadway? |
|
My daughter's coming to visit during Christmas and wants to see a show. Found pretty decent seats for Moving Out - the Billy Joel musical, wondered what anyone here who has seen it thought of it.

2. I saw it in Los Angeles |

with most of the original New York cast. If you like Billy Joel, you will love it but pay attention to the storyline. It tends to get a bit confusing, especially if the acoustics are not just right.

3. Thanks - have always been a big Billy Joel fan |

I believe it is the story of Brenda & Eddy from Scenes from an Italian Restaurant. I love the music but can't figure out how they made it into a play.

6. its A STORY TOLD PRIMARILY IN DANCE |
|
WITH THE MUSIC SERVING TO KEEP THE STORY LINE GOING. they WROTE A STORY that allowed them to insert the song of Joel into the storyline. The dancing is quite good. It follows a group of people from a time just prior to the guys going to Vietnam and what happens after they return. Its not the best show I have ever seen but as I said, if you like Billy Joel music, you will like the show and yes, "Uptown Girl" is one of the songs.

if she wants to go to a Broadway show, take her to something more interesting and exciting. Though it's choreographed byh Twyla Tharp, who's a genius of choregraphy. So for the dancing, it could be worth seeing, since it won't be shit dancing, but artistic dancing. I don't know why Twyla decided to work for a Billy Joel musical, but there you are. I can only assume she did it because she earned a shitload of money for it, which means she could support her own dance troop and continue training new dancers, instead of scrounging for donations and NEA grants, etc. She's a dedicated and tremendous artist.
But the Producers is awesome, and perhaps far more enjoyable.

I enjoyed it but it's very different. The musical score is all old Billy Joel songs. The actors/dancers perform to the music. There is a plot but it uses the old Joel songs. It seems more a modern dance or ballet. I enjoyed it, but I would have been disappointed if that was the only Broadway show I had seen or had seen for many years. I saw another show that visit, so I loved the Moving Out show.
