<snip> "Why on earth he was heating a lava lamp on the stove, we don't know," Kent Police spokesman Paul Petersen said Monday. http://komotv.com/stories/34174.htm

5. Pretty bad luck really |
|
Sure, this was either kind of stupid, or else a bad case of forgetfulness (who hasn't forgotten stuff on a stove, even peculiar stuff?). But to have a shard of glass get you right in the heart is the kind of bad luck that could turn any stupid mistake into a fatality.
The Darwin Award stuff seems unkind and an over-reaction. It could have just as easily been a glass coffee percolator exploding due to a flaw in the glass or some other odd misfortune. He was still someone's 24 year old son.

he knew it lava'd when it got hot, why the hell else do you think he heated it on a stove.
Someone's son is dead and as William R. Burroughs says - this is the greatest pain anyone can suffer - for your children to die before you.
Anyone with a child would understand that is is a situation of somber grief, not laughter.

One dumb mistake. I'm sure we have all done something silly, that could have turned tragic.

I have one and the instructions on the bottom say to only use a 40 watt appliance bulb obviously you aren't supposed to let it get very hot! :eyes:

Lived there for many years. Not the first time one of its illustrious residents was killed by his own stupidity. Lava lamps are stupid hippie relics anyway. What a moron.
